2020-2021 YPO GOLD LEARNING PROGRAM:WHILE THE THEME FOR THE 2020-2021 YEAR STARTED OUT WITH A WHIMSICAL CIRCUS THEME, RANDY RUSSELL QUICKLY PIVOTED DUE TO THE ONGOING PANDEMIC. EMBRACING A NEW WAY OF LEARNING AND THE UNCERTAINLY OF WHEN IN PERSON PROGRAMMING WOULD RESUME, HE QUICKLY REIMAGINED THE RESOURCES HE COULD AND WOULD UTILIZE FOR THE YEAR THAT NEEDED TO EMBRACE "STAYING CONNECTED" IN A NEW WAY.THE YEAR STARTED WITH A PROGRAM ABOUT COLLEGIATE ATHLETICS AND SO HAPPENED TO FALL ON THE SAME DAY THAT THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH HELD THEIR FIRST IN-PERSON CLASSES OF THE YEAR. BALANCING COVID PROTOCOLS WITH STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM DIRECTLY FROM CHANCELLOR PATRICK GALLAGHER WAS A SPECIAL TREAT. ADDITIONALLY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR HEATHER LYKE SHARED HER PERSPECTIVE ABOUT STUDENT ATHLETES AT A TIME WHEN THEIR SAFETY WAS BEING QUESTIONED. YPO GOLD CONTINUED INTO OCTOBER LEARNING ABOUT THE LATEST CANCER AND DIABETES RESEARCH HAPPENING IN PITTSBURGH BY DR. STANLEY MARKS AND DR. GEORGE GITTES. LATER IN THE MONTH, THE GROUP TOOK ADVANTAGE OF DAVID POLLOCK'S KNOWLEDGE BY QUICKLY PLANNING A VIRTUAL CONVERSATION ABOUT THE MIDDLE EAST PEACE TALKS. CONTINUING INTO NOVEMBER, JOEL BORELLIS SPOKE WITH THE MEMBERSHIP ABOUT BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION.DECEMBER WAS A PIVOTAL TIME FOR THE GROUP AS THE ENTIRE CHAPTER EMBRACED THE IDEA OF COOKING AT HOME TOGETHER FOR THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY. ALL OF THE MAKINGS FOR A PERFECTLY PLANNED DINNER WERE SENT TO EVERYONE'S HOME SO THEY COULD FOLLOW ALONG WITH THE CHEF. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME RANDY RUSSELL JOINED THE RESOURCE ON CAMERA AND IT PROVED TO BE THE MOST ENGAGING EVENT OF THE YEAR.THE SPRING OPENED UP WITH VIRTUAL PROGRAMS FEATURING LOCAL CONCERT PROMOTER, RICK ENGLER; PETE SOUSA, A FORMER WHITE HOUSE PHOTOGRAPHER AND BURTON MORRIS, A LOCAL ARTIST. EACH OF THESE EVENTS WERE ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL WITH RESOURCES WHO DREW MEMBERS IN WITH GREAT STORIES.THE GROUP FINALLY GOT TOGETHER IN PERSON FOR A GOLF EVENT IN MAY WHICH HAD THE HIGHEST ATTENDANCE IN RECENT YEARS.
