2021-2022 YPO GOLD LEARNING PROGRAMCOMING OFF OF A COVID-LEARNING YEAR WAS A CHALLENGE IN THAT THE GUIDELINES FOR GATHERING WERE STILL IN FLUX THROUGH MOST OF THE YEAR. WHILE TYPICALLY, THE CHAPTER WOULD END WITH A GOLF EVENT & SOCIAL, THEY CHOSE SPECIFICALLY TO BEGIN WITH ONE AS IT WOULD BE AN OUTDOOR ACTIVITY THAT BOTH MEMBERS AND SPOUSES COULD ENGAGE IN. THE THEME FOR THE 2021-2022 YEAR WAS REKINDLE. A NOD TO RETURNING TOGETHER TO REKINDLE RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THE CHAPTER. LEARNING OFFICER ROY KERN WAS VERY THOUGHTFUL ABOUT THE PROGRAMS HE PLANNED, THE VENUES HE CHOSE AND THE TOPICS HE PURSUED.THE FALL EVENTS INCLUDED CONVERSATIONS WITH VICTIMS OF POLICE VIOLENCE AS WE EXPLORED RACE RELATIONS, A BOOK CLUB TYPE DISCUSSION WITH LOCAL AUTHOR MARIE BENEDICT AROUND HER RECENTLY RELEASED HISTORICAL FICTION NOVEL, THE PERSONAL LIBRARIAN, A MEMBERS-ONLY LUNCH PROGRAM AROUND SUCCESSION PLANNING WITH MEMBER BRAD FRANC AND A TOUR OF A STEEL PLANT AS WE LEARNED ABOUT THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF CAPITALISM IN PITTSBURGH. THE END OF THE YEAR FINISHED UP WITH A VISIT FROM THE "ANIMAL GENERAL", DR. MIKE HUTCHINSON AS HE SPOKE ABOUT ANIMAL HEALTH AND HOW TECHNOLOGY IS ESSENTIAL TO THEIR VETERINARY CARE AND LASTLY A VERY SPECIAL EVENING WITH PITTSBURGH NATIVE, CHEF MICHAEL SOLOMONOV AS HE PREPARED THE MOST DELICIOUS MEAL AND TOLD STORIES IN BETWEEN COURSES ABOUT THE TRAJECTORY OF HIS CULINARY JOURNEY.
