GOODWILL OF THE SOUTHERN ALLEGHENIES OPERATES A DONATED GOODS RETAIL SYSTEM CONSISTING OF 11 STORES AND A 93,000 SQUARE FOOT DISTRIBUTION CENTER SERVING A SIX AND A HALF COUNTY REGION. OUR RETAIL SYSTEM PLAYS THREE CRITICAL MISSION ROLES WHICH INCLUDE PROVIDING WORK AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFF AND CLIENTS, PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE RECYCLING, AND GENERATING ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO HELP OUR RESIDENTS GAIN, RETAIN, AND ADVANCE IN EMPLOYMENT AND STAY INTEGRATED IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.AT THE SAME TIME GOODWILL IS HELPING PEOPLE IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE, WE ARE HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH A COMMITMENT TO REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT BY 50% BY 2030. A MAJOR STEP TOWARD THIS GOAL WAS ACHIEVED IN 2023 THROUGH THE INSTALLATION OF A 185 KW SOLAR ARRAY ON OUR PAINT TOWNSHIP, PA. WAREHOUSE. THE ELECTRICITY PRODUCED SUPPORTS MISSION-BASED OPERATIONS AND THE CHARGING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES.
OUR GOODWILL WAS COMPETITIVELY AWARDED OVER $9.5 MILLION FOR A STATE-WIDE INITIATIVE TO SERVE INDIVIDUALS BEING RELEASED FROM MINIMUM TO LOW SECURITY FEDERAL INSTITUTIONS IN PENNSYLVANIA. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA ASSOCIATION OF GOODWILLS, THE GRANT WILL SUPPORT THE SEAMLESS TRANSITION OF RETURNING CITIZENS TO COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE. SERVING OVER 15,208 INDIVIDUALS IN 2023, GOODWILL ALSO OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF PROGRAMS SUPPORTING PERSONS WHO ARE YOUNG ADULTS, EX-OFFENDERS, OR HAVE DISABILITIES. SERVICES INCLUDE ASSESSMENT, CAREER EXPLORATION, CAREER COUNSELING, ADULT LITERACY, WORK EXPERIENCE, MENTORING, PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION, PEER SUPPORT, JOB DEVELOPMENT, PLACEMENT, AND FOLLOW-ALONG. WE ARE VIEWED AS A REGIONAL LEADER IN PROVIDING PRE- AND POST-RELEASE EMPLOYMENT SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WITH A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND. SERVICES FROM THE GOODWILL'S MOXHAM FOOD PANTRY PROGRAM CONTINUE TO GROW AS WE SERVE OVER 200 FAMILIES PER MONTH. WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING OUR ROLE AS A CRITICAL COMMUNITY ASSET.
