MERAKEY ALLEGHENY VALLEY SCHOOL (M/AVS) PROVIDES A HOME AND FULL RANGE OF SUPPORTS TO NEARLY 800 ADULTS (AGE 19-80+) WITH ALL LEVELS OF INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (IDD). WHILE APPROXIMATELY 5% OF THE GENERAL POPULATION THAT IS DIAGNOSED WITH IDD FITS INTO THE PROFOUND/SEVERE DIAGNOSIS CATEGORIES, 80% OF M/AVS' POPULATION IS IN THIS RANGE. IN ADDITION, MOST OF THE INDIVIDUALS SUPPORTED BY M/AVS HAVE PHYSICAL DISABILITIES, MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS AND MAY REQUIRE SUPPORTS FOR CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS. RESIDENTS LIVE IN SAFE, NURTURING AND SUPERVISED ENVIRONMENTS INCLUDING COMMUNITY HOMES, CAMPUS ENVIRONMENTS, APARTMENTS ANDLIFE SHARING PROGRAMS; THEY PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY LIFE AND RECEIVESERVICES/SUPPORTS AT HOME AND THROUGH DAY PROGRAMS. M/AVS HAS 120+ PROGRAMS IN THE FOLLOWING PA COUNTIES: ALLEGHENY, BEAVER, BUCKS, BUTLER, DAUPHIN, LEBANON, MERCER, MONTGOMERY, AND PHILADELPHIA. SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS THAT RESPOND TO THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH IDD INCLUDE: MEMORY CARE,COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY, SENSORY, AND TECHNOLOGY HOMES. M/AVS HASBEEN PROVIDING CARE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH IDD SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1960.FY2021 SAW M/AVS CONTINUE TO EXPAND ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY TO ENSURE THAT INDIVIDUALS CAN CONTINUE TO ENGAGE MEANINGFULLY WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND THE COMMUNITY WHILE PRESERVING HEALTH AND SAFETY.
