LIFE SKILLS CONTINUING TO OFFER VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING OPTIONS, THE COUNCIL OFFERED A GIRL SCOUTS AT HOME FEATURE, WHICH COMPILED A NUMBER OF RESOURCES FOR GIRLS TO EXPLORE PROGRAMS ONLINE IN THE SAFETY AND CONVENIENCE OF THEIR HOME. THE PROJECTS INCLUDED CURRICULUM KITS, RESOURCES, AT-HOME BADGE-WORK, AWARDS, AND ZOOM-RELATED ACTIVITIES.THE COUNCIL ALSO PROVIDED AN EXTENSIVE LIST OF ONLINE RESOURCES FOR VOLUNTEERS, TROOP LEADERS, CAREGIVERS AND THE COMMUNITY. FOR THOSE TROOP LEADERS WHO DIDN'T FEEL SAFE SHOPPING IN STORES, COUNCIL CONTINUED TO OFFER PRE-PACKAGED BADGE KITS FOR LEADERS TO USE. THIS PROGRAM YEAR, GSHPA WAS PROUD TO RECOGNIZE 68 GOLD AWARD RECIPIENTS IN AN IN-PERSON CEREMONY AT BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY. THE GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD IS THE HIGHEST AWARD A GIRL SCOUT CAN EARN AND PROVIDES GIRL SCOUTS IN HIGH SCHOOL THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THEIR PASSION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THIS YEAR'S CLASS DEMONSTRATED A VARIETY OF PASSIONS AND PURSUITS AND PROVED WHEN GIRLS GO FOR GOLD, THEY CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING.
ENTREPRENEURSHIPGIRL SCOUT ENTREPRENEURS EXCELLED IN OUR PRODUCT PROGRAMS BY DEFYING SUPPLY CHAIN BARRIERS AMIDST LINGERING COVID CHALLENGES. DESPITE THE MANY PANDEMIC-RELATED ISSUES STILL FACED, OUR GIRLS EXPERIENCED BUSINESS SUCCESS BY CUSTOMIZING THEIR SELLING PLATFORMS AND HONING THEIR FINANCIAL LITERACY AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS TO SURPASS THEIR SALES GOALS.THE PRODUCT PROGRAM TEAM CONTINUED TO EXPAND THEIR DIGITAL PLATFORM TRAINING FOR THE GIRLS TO TAKE THEIR BUSINESS ONLINE. THE DIGITAL COOKIE PROGRAM CONTINUES TO SERVE TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD FOR GIRLS, ESPECIALLY IN IMPOVERISHED COMMUNITIES, WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT HAVE HAD THE ABILITY TO MAKE IN-PERSON SALES.TAPPING INTO THEIR ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT, THE GIRL SCOUTS AND VOLUNTEERS CONTINUED TO FIND EFFECTIVE AND CREATIVE WAYS TO REACH THEIR MARKETS VIA SOCIAL MEDIA AND OTHER ONLINE EXPERIENCES. WITH THE NEW ADVENTUREFULS COOKIE ADDED TO THE LINEUP, OUR SAVVY MARKETERS AND ENTREPRENEURS WERE READY TO TACKLE ANY OBSTACLE THROWN THEIR WAY TO REACH THEIR COOKIE GOALS. OUR GIRL SCOUTS FOUND WAYS TO CONNECT WITH CUSTOMERS, OVERCOME SUPPLY CHAIN AND INVENTORY ISSUES EXPERIENCED BY OUR COOKIE BAKER, AND PICKUP COOKIES DURING A SNOW STORM AT THE ANNUAL MEGA DROP EVENT. GIRL SCOUTS NOT ONLY PERSEVERED THROUGH ALL THESE CHALLENGES, BUT EXCEEDED THEIR GOALS AND INCREASED THEIR TOTAL NUMBER OF PACKAGES SOLD FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
OUTDOOR PROGRAMOUTDOOR ACTIVITIES OFFER A KEY PATHWAY FOR GIRL SCOUT PARTICIPATION. THESE EXPERIENCES ARE OFFERED AT THE COUNCIL-OPERATED FOUR CAMP FACILITIES AND OFFSITE WITH APPROVED PROGRAM PARTNERS. GIRLS CAN CHOOSE FROM DIFFERENT THEMES AND FOCUS AREAS, INCLUDING ENVIRONMENTAL OR OUTDOOR EDUCATION. WHEN COVID CHANGED THE DYNAMICS OF OFFERING IN-PERSON ACTIVITIES, OUTDOOR AND PROGRAM TEAMS ADAPTED BY LAUNCHING A SERIES OF VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES INCLUDING LIVE, FACILITATED ZOOM ACTIVITIES THAT INTEGRATED AGE-LEVEL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMING. WHILE COUNCIL HAS RESUMED TRADITIONAL IN-PERSON OUTDOOR PROGRAMMING, VIRTUAL DELIVERY OPTIONS CONTINUE TO BE OFFERED ALLOWING THE GIRL SCOUT TO CHOOSE HER EXPERIENCE. THE COUNCIL RESUMED THE MORE POPULAR IN-PERSON CAMPING EXPERIENCE AND OPENED UP OUR CAMP FACILITIES DURING THE SUMMER FOR RESIDENT, MINI, FAMILY, AND DAY CAMPS AT ALL FOUR OF OUR CAMP PROPERTIES WHILE EMPLOYING ONGOING SAFETY PROTOCOLS. MORE THAN 1,600 GIRL SCOUTS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF OUTDOOR PROGRAMMING THIS YEAR
STEAMCOUNCIL'S CONTINUED ENRICHMENT WITH THE SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART, AND MATHEMATICS (STEAM) PROGRAMS CONTINUED THROUGH BOTH VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION, INCLUDING A VIRTUAL STEAM SUMMER KICKOFF, STEAM SATURDAYS AND GSHPA'S ACADEMIC EDGE OUTREACH PROGRAM. STEAM REMAINS OUR MOST POPULAR PROGRAMMING, FOR BOTH IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL DELIVERY SETTINGS. THIS IS ENHANCED BY THE COMMITMENT TO ENSURE THAT EVERY COUNCIL-LED PROGRAM IS TIED TO PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STANDARDS. THE COUNCIL IS AGAIN APPROVED AS AN EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT ORGANIZATION FOR STEAM PROGRAMMING ELIGIBLE FOR EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT TAX CREDITS ADMINISTERED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
