THE PURPOSE OF THIS SOCIETY SHALL BE TO BRING TOGETHER THOSE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN HISTORY, AND THE HISTORY OF CLAY COUNTY, KANSAS. THE SOCIETY'S MAJOR FUNCTION WILL BE TO DISCOVER AND COLLECT ANY MATERIAL WHICH MAY HELP TO ESTABLISH OR ILLUSTRATE THE HISTORY OF THE AREA

DURING THE MONTHS OF SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER WE HAD ON DISPLAY A TRAVELING EXHIBIT, IMPRINTING THE WEST. THIS EXHIBIT IS PART OF EXHIBITSUSA/MAAA.ORG OUT OF KANSAS CITY. WE HAD THIS EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY DURING OUR FALL FESTIVAL, PIOTIQUE, AND HAD ABOUT 175 VISITORS.
THE CLAY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOLD ITS ANNUAL MEETING IN NOVEMBER. THE MEETING IS ADVERTISED IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER AND RADIO STATION. THIS YEAR A PROGRAM WAS PRESENTED BY TWO AUTHORS OF A BOOK ABOUT AN EVENT THAT HAPPENED IN 1948 BETWEEN A LOCAL TOWN, MORGANVILLE, KS AND FEVES, FRANCE. ALL SOCIETY MEMBERS WERE INVITED AND REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED. ALL NEW BOARD MEMBERS ARE VOTED ON AT THIS MEETING
OUR LIBRARY AND GENEALOGY RESEARCH AREAS ARE UTILIZED THROUGHHOUT THE YEAR. OUR STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS KEEP THE MATERIAL IN THE LIBRARY READY FOR PUBLIC USE. A FEW OF THE VOLUNTEERS ARE ALSO ABSTRACTING INFORMATION FROM THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS AND ASSISTING WITH GENEALOGY RESEARCH. WE HAVE MANY REQUESTS THROUGH THE YEAR FOR GENEALOGY RESEARCH.
