THE AMERICAN COLLEGE DANCE ASSOCIATION'S PRIMARY FOCUS IS TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE DANCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION THROUGH SPONSORSHIP OF REGIONAL CONFERENCES, FESTIVALS AND VIRTUAL EVENTS. THE CONFERENCES ARE THE PRIMARY MEANS FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY DANCE PROGRAMS TO PERFORM OUTSIDE THEIR OWN ACADEMIC SETTING AND TO GAIN EXPOSURE TO THE DIVERSITY THROUGHOUT COLLEGE DANCE NATIONALLY. STUDENTS AND FACULTY AROUND THE REGION AND COUNTRY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE DANCE WORKS ADJUDICATED BY A PANEL OF NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED DANCE PROFESSIONALS IN AN OPEN AND CONSTRUCTIVE FORUM. A RICH ARRAY OF CLASSES ARE OFFERED AT EVERY CONFERENCE. ACDA SPONSORS THE NATIONAL COLLEGE DANCE FESTIVAL, A BIENNIAL EVENT, SHOWCASING WORKS SELECTED FROM EACH REGIONAL CONFERENCE. ACDA ALSO OFFERS VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT DANCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION, INCLUDING A SCREENDANCE FESTIVAL AND VIRTUAL ADJUDICATION. VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING: PROGRAMS INCLUDED THE 2022 SCREENDANCE FESTIVAL (2 WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS OVER TWO WEEKENDS, ADJUDICATION OF 82 SUBMISSIONS, 2 GALA CONCERTS; INFORMAL SHOWCASE); 2022 AT-LARGE VIRTUAL ADJUDICATION (A PILOT PROJECT WITH 50 RECORDED DANCES FOR ADJUDICATION).
ACDA REGIONAL CONFERENCES: THE ACDA NATIONAL OFFICE PROVIDED WRITTEN SUPPORT MATERIALS, TECHNICAL RESEARCH AND SUPPORT, AND ONGOING CONSULTATION FOR NINE (9) IN-PERSON CONFERENCES HOSTED BY COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN SPRING 2022. OVER 2000 STUDENTS, FACULTY, MUSICIANS AND GUEST ARTISTS PARTICIPATED. CONFERENCES INCLUDED OPPORTUNITIES OVER A THREE OR FOUR-DAY PERIOD TO PERFORM IN AND VIEW FORMAL AND INFORMAL CONCERTS; RECEIVE FEEDBACK ON CHOREOGRAPHY AND PERFORMANCE; PRESENT AND/OR PARTICIPATE IN CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS, AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS; AND STRENGTHEN PROFESSIONAL CONNECTIONS. THE NUMBER OF CONFERENCES AND THE REGISTRATION NUMBERS WERE LOWER THAN PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS.
NATIONAL COLLEGE DANCE FESTIVAL PLANNING. DISCUSSIONS AND PLANNING CONTINUED FOR THE 2023 NATIONAL FESTIVAL. IN 2023, APPROXIMATELY 33 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WILL BE INVITED THROUGH REGIONAL CONFERENCE ADJUDICATIONS, TO PERFORM OR ATTEND THREE GALA PERFORMANCES IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA. PERFORMANCES WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. IN ADDITION TO PERFORMING, FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE APPROXIMATELY 500 EXPECTED REGISTRANTS WILL INCLUDE CLASSES, DISCUSSIONS AND SOCIAL EVENTS.
