THE PURPOSE IS TO ENCOURAGE, IMPROVE AND PROMOTE STANDARDS OF YOUTH HOCKEY IN MILWAUKEE COUNTY. APPROXIMATELY 300 CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED IN LEARNING TO PLAY HOCKEY. SHAW SUPPORTS PROGRAMS AT ALL AGES.

SOUTHEASTERN HOCKEY ASSOCIATION HAS APPROXIMATELY 300 YOUTH SKATERS, AGES 3-19. OUR DEVO PROGRAM (3-5 YEARS) STRESSES DRILLS AND BASIC SKATING. THE MINI-MITE PROGRAM (5-7 YEARS) BEGINS THE PROCESS OF LEARNING ABOUT THE GAME OF HOCKEY, OTHER AREA TEAMS ARE BROUGHT IN TO PLAY, NO SCORE IS KEPT, AND THEY PARTICIPATE IN TOURNAMENTS. THE MITE PROGRAM (UNDER 8) IS FOCUSED ON SKATING SKILLS AND EXPANDING THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME OF HOCKEY. PENALTIES AND GOALIES ARE INTRODUCED AT THIS LEVEL. SQUIRT PROGRAM (UNDER 10) STARTS SKATING ON THE FULL SHEET OF ICE. BASIC SKILLS ARE STILL STRESSED, THE GAME OF HOCKEY BECOMES THE FOCUS AND TOURNAMENTS ARE PLAYED. THIS IS THE FIRST LEVEL OF COMPETITIVE PLAY. THE PEEWEE PROGRAM (UNDER 12) EXPANDS ON THE PREVIOUS PROGRAMS AND STRESSES THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE GAME OF HOCKEY. BANTAM PROGRAM (UNDER 14) CONTINUES TOEXPAND ON WHAT HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY TAUGHT. THIS IS THE FIRST LEVEL WHERE PLAYERS ARE ALLOWED TO CHECK.
