OUR RENEWED MISSION STATEMENT HIGHLIGHTS STUDENTS AT THE HEART OF OUR WORK, ALIGNS WITH THE REIMAGINE PLAN AT GRPS, AND IS RESPONSIVE TO THE CHANGING NEEDS OF SCHOLARS. WE STRIVE TO ENSURE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES AND EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE STUDENTS SUCCEED INSIDE AND BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. WE FUND PROGRAMS, RESOURCES, AND SPECIAL PROJECTS FOR GRPS. WE PROVIDE KEY PROGRAM SUPPORT FOR GRPS, IN THE AREAS OF SPORTS, ART & MUSIC, AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING. ADDITIONALLY, WE FUND RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS AS WELL AS AN ANNUAL SPECIAL PROJECT BASED ON NEEDS IN EDUCATION. SEE COMPLETE DETAILS IN SCHEDULE OTHE FOUNDATION FUNDED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING SUCH AS FIELD TRIPS TO CAMP OR TRAVEL TO LAKE MICHIGAN. THE FOUNDATION PURCHASED MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND SUPPLIES FOR FINE ARTS. WE ALSO SUPPORTED THE ESSENTIAL NEEDS OF SCHOLARS THROUGH OUR TERESA WEATHERALL NEAL PRINCIPAL'S FUND THAT PROVIDED TEACHER SUPPLIES, SENT KIDS TO CAMP, AND FUNDED PROMS. TOGETHER WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS WE HELD RESOURCE COLLECTION DRIVES. OUR FORMAL DRESS SHOP GAVE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE A DRESS SO THEY COULD ATTEND HOMECOMING OR PROM DANCES. WE ALSO HELD A WARMTH DRIVE THAT COLLECTED HATS, MITTENS, COATS, BOOTS, AND SCARVES SO STUDENTS COULD PLAY AND EXPLORE OUTSIDE.
PROGRAM SERVICE: THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS A ROBUST VISUAL AND MUSICAL ARTS CURRICULUM FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRPS THROUGH A CONTINUUM OF PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING: ELEMENTARY STRINGS, DISTRICT-WIDE CHORAL AND MUSIC FESTIVALS, CLAY, POTTERY AND OTHER THREE DIMENSIONAL ART INSTRUCTIONS AND EXPOSURE THROUGH ENRICHMENT TRIPS TO LOCAL, ANCHOR ARTS ORGANIZATION LIKE THE GRAND RAPIDS ART MUSEUM, THE GRAND RAPIDS CIVIC THEATRE AND THE FREDERIK MEIJER GARDENS AND SCULPTURE PARK. ADDITIONALLY, WE FUND ALL SPORTS IN THE DISTRICT SO THAT ALL 1ST 8TH GRADERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY A WIDE VARIETY OF SPORTS.
GREAT SPORTS FOR PHYSICAL WELLNESS IS AN AREA THAT THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOLARS OF GRPS. THIS PROGRAM FUNDS AFTER-SCHOOL SPORTS TO ALLOW ALL STUDENTS FROM KINDERGARTEN TO 8TH GRADE TO PLAY AT NO COST TO THE SCHOLARS. IT ALSO ENCOURAGES A HEALTHY, ACTIVE LIFESTYLE AND GROWS THEIR PASSION AND LOVE OF SPORTS. THE GOAL IS TO DEVELOP EXCEPTIONAL, WELL-ROUNDED STUDENT-ATHLETES BY FOSTERING AN ATHLETICS PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, WITH IMPROVED SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, ATHLETIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVE LIFESTYLE, STRENGTHENED POSITIVE ADULT RELATIONSHIPS, REDUCES STRESS, AND BUILDS SELF-ESTEEM AND TEAMWORK.
WE ARE IN THE COMPLETION PHASE OF THE GRPS TRANSFORMATION PLAN WITH PUBLIC, PRIVATE, AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT OF THE NEW GRPS PUBLIC MUSEUM SCHOOL FOR 6-12TH GRADES AS WELL AS ADDED A BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM FOR BOTH COIT CREATIVE ARTS ACADEMY AND SHERWOOD PARK GLOBAL STUDIES ACADEMY SCHOOLS. THIS INNOVATIVE AND FLEXIBLE APPROACH TO LEARNING IN THE 21ST CENTURY WAS PART OF THE XQ SUPER SCHOOL PROJECT.
