Part 3 - Line 4a

THE GRPS FOUNDATION RAISES FUNDS AROUND FIVE MAIN AREAS OF IMPACT TO PROVIDE RESOURCES NEEDED FOR THE SCHOLARS OF GRAND RAPIDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO LEARN, DEVELOP AND THRIVE AND TO ALLOW FOR THE DISTRICT TO MEET ITS OWN GOALS OF EDUCATION EXCELLENCE. THESE FUNDS PROVIDE CRITICAL EXPERIENCES THAT LAY PATHWAYS FOR ALL STUDENTS TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL. ARTS EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, LITERACY, MATH SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AND PHYSICAL WELLNESS ARE THE FIVE AREAS OF IMPACT THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS KEY PATHS TO ENSURE A MORE WELL-ROUNDED FOUNDATION FOR OUR STUDENTS. ADDITIONALLY, MANY EXPERIENCES AND EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS DO NOT NECESSARILY FALL INTO ONE OF THESE AREAS, AND ADDITIONAL FUNDS ARE RAISED TO ADDRESS THE EVER CHANGING AND VITAL NEEDS OF THE DISTRICT.

GREAT SPORTS FOR PHYSICAL WELLNESS IS ONE OF THE FIVE MAIN IMPACT AREAS THAT THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS FOR THE SCHOLARS OF GRPS. THIS PROGRAM FUNDS AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS TO ALLOW ALL STUDENTS FROM KINDERGARTEN TO 8TH GRADE TO PLAY AT NO COST TO THE SCHOLARS. THE GOAL IS TO DEVELOP EXCEPTIONAL, WELL- ROUNDED STUDENT-ATHLETES BY FOSTERING AN ATHLETICS PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTS: ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, OVERALL IMPROVED SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, ATHLETIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT, STRENGTHENED POSITIVE COACH RELATIONSHIPS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.

PROGRAM SERVICE: SUPPORTING A ROBUST VISUAL AND MUSICAL ARTS CURRICULUM FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRPS THROUGH A CONTINUUM OF PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING: ELEMENTARY STRINGS, DISTRICT-WIDE CHORAL AND MUSIC FESTIVALS, CLAY, POTTERY AND OTHER THREE DIMENSIONAL ART INSTRUCTIONS AND EXPOSURE THROUGH ENRICHMENT TRIPS TO LOCAL, ANCHOR ARTS ORGANIZATION LIKE THE GRAND RAPIDS ART MUSEUM, THE GRAND RAPIDS CIVIC THEATRE AND THE FREDERIK MEIJER GARDENS AND SCULPTURE PARK.
