THE MASK & WIG CLUB'S PURPOSE IS TO FOSTER THE DRAMATIC INTERESTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA, AND TO PROMOTE FRIENDSHIP AMONG ITS MEMBERS. EACH YEAR SINCE 1889, THE CLUB HAS PRODUCED AN ORIGINAL MUSICAL COMEDY FEATURING UNDERGRADUATES OF THE UNIVERSITY. THE UNDERGRADUATES CONTRIBUTE TO ALL ASPECTS OF THE PRODUCTION THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE CAST, BAND, STAGE CREW, WRITING STAFF, AND BUSINESS STAFF. THE CLUB IS OVERSEEN BY A BOARD OF GOVERNORS, COMPRISED OF MATRICULATED PARTICIPANTS AND CURRENT UNDERGRADUATES. THE CLUB PERFORMS IN THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA (18 SHOWS), AND TRAVELS TO ALUMNI CLUBS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA (5 SHOWS). THE SHOW IS SEEN BY 3,000 TO 4,000 PEOPLE.
