THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION (LTA) MANAGES AND OPERATES THE HISTORIC LINCOLN THEATRE COMPLEX LOCATED IN THE KING-LINCOLN DISTRICT OF COLUMBUS, OH. OPERATION OF THE THEATRE CONSISTED OF OVERSEEING RENTAL OF THE THEATRE, RELATED REHEARSAL AND BALLROOM SPACES, AND OVERSEEING OFFICE SPACE AND EDUCATION SPACES. THE LINCOLN THEATRE PARTICULARLY ENCOURAGES AND SUPPORTS NEW AND EMERGING BLACK ARTISTS AND ARTS ORGANIZATIONS. DURING FY21, MORE THAN 20,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED EVENTS, EITHER VIRTUALLY OR LIVE AT THE THEATRE, FEATURING A WIDE RANGE OF PERFORMANCES. IN MARCH 2020, THE LINCOLN SUSPENDED IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION RETURNED TO IN-PERSON PROGRAMS THAT WERE PRODUCED PRIMARILY ONLINE WITH A RESTRICTED LIVE AUDIENCE.
OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES SERVED THE KING-LINCOLN DISTRICT AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. FOR ADULTS, OUR LARGEST PROGRAM HELPED EMERGING ARTISTS BY PROVIDING A SERIES OF CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS, GIVING PRACTICAL GUIDANCE ON ISSUES SUCH AS COPYRIGHT LAW, INSURANCE, MARKETING, AND PRODUCTION VALUES. THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION ALSO PROUDLY HOSTED A COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS SERIES FREE FOR THE PUBLIC WITH PANEL DISCUSSIONS ON TIMELY SUBJECTS. IN OCTOBER OF 2020, THE SUBJECT OF OUR VIRTUAL COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS WAS "SOCIAL JUSTICE, SOCIAL WELLNESS - CORPORATE TO COMMUNITY". FOR CHILDREN, OUR LARGEST EDUCATION PROGRAM WAS OUR PATTERNZ SUMMER CAMP, WHICH SERVED HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN AGES 6-13 FOR EIGHT WEEKS, PROVIDING VALUABLE ARTS EDUCATION EXPERIENCES. CAMPERS PARTICIPATED IN WORKSHOPS LEARNING ABOUT DANCE, VISUAL ARTS, THEATRE, AND MUSIC; GAINING PERFORMING SKILLS AS THEY BUILT IMPORTANT SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS.
PUBLIC PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION BENEFITED BOTH ARTISTS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. OUR BACKSTAGE AT THE LINCOLN AND CLUB LINCOLN CONCERT SERIES FEATURED LOCAL MUSICIANS AND SHOWCASED A VARIETY OF GENRES, SUCH AS R&B, SOUL, JAZZ, GOSPEL, AND SPOKEN WORD. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, CONCERTS WERE HELD THROUGH VIRTUAL PLATFORMS AND LIMITED, IN-PERSON EVENTS. IN THE FALL OF 2020, THE LINCOLN INTRODUCED A SHORT-RUN CONCERT SERIES FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMEBER, THE LINCOLN LIVING ROOM, WHICH HIGHLIGHTED EMERGING TALENT AND EXPERIMENTED WITH THE VIRTUAL PLATFORM.
