THE COX EMPLOYEE RELIEF FUND, INC. WAS ORGANIZED ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2005 MAINLY IN RESPONSE TO THE NEEDS OF HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS, BUT THE FUND'S PURPOSES ARE MUCH BROADER THAN RESPONDING TO A SINGLE DISASTER. THE FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE OF THE FUND IS TO PROVIDE MONETARY AND NONMONETARY RELIEF TO VICTIMS OF NATURAL DISASTERS, ACCIDENTS, SERIOUS ILLNESS, OR OTHER EMERGENCY EVENTS. BENEFITS ARE PROVIDED PRINCIPALLY TO VICTIMS WHO ARE EITHER EMPLOYEES OR FORMER EMPLOYEES OF COX ENTERPRISES, INC. AND AFFILIATES (CEI) AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. TO ACHIEVE THIS PURPOSE, THE FUND COLLECTS CONTRIBUTIONS FROM CEI, ITS EMPLOYEES, VENDORS, SHAREHOLDERS, AFFILIATES, AND AFFILIATES' EMPLOYEES, AS WELL AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC. DISTRIBUTIONS ARE MADE DIRECTLY TO ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS WHO DEMONSTRATE, ACCORDING TO ESTABLISHED GUIDELINES, THAT THEY HAVE SUFFERED LOSSES AS A RESULT OF NATURAL DISASTER, ACCIDENT, ILLNESS, OR OTHER EMERGENCY THAT CANNOT BE MET BY THE INDIVIDUALS' OWN RESOURCES OR VIA AID PROVIDED BY FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL RELIEF AGENCIES. THE FUND MAY ALSO ASSIST IN ORGANIZING RELIEF EFFORTS, SUCH AS DISTRIBUTING SUPPLIES COLLECTED BY THE FUND OR PAYING FOR COST OF DELIVERING SUPPLIES COLLECTED BY THE FUND.
