URBAN MINISTRIES OF WAKE COUNTY ENGAGES OUR COMMUNITY TO SERVE AND ADVOCATE FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY POVERTY BY PROVIDING FOOD AND NUTRITION, PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELLNESS, AND LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS OF HOME.

MEDICAL SERVICES: THE OPEN DOOR CLINIC IS A FREE AND CHARITABLE CLINIC. OUR PATIENTS HAVE INCOMES <250% OF THE FPL. PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS, REFERRALS FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND LAB TESTS, AND REFERRALS TO SPECIALTY CARE ARE PROVIDED AT NO COST. TELEHEALTH VISITS ARE OFFERED. PATIENTS RECEIVE HOME BP CUFFS AND DIABETIC TESTING SUPPLIES TO PROMOTE SELF-CARE. HEALTH EDUCATION FOR CHRONIC HEALTH CARE CONDITIONS, NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING, VACCINATIONS, AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH VISITS ARE AVAILABLE.
CRISIS SUPPORT (HUNGER AND NUTRITION): HEALTHY FOOD BOXES ARE PROVIDED WEEKLY TO FAMILIES WITH FOOD INSECURITY WITH A DRIVE THRU SERVING 85 FAMILIES/DAY AND WITH 180 BOXES PROVIDED WEEKLY TO FAMILIES IDENTIFIED BY PARTNER AGENCIES. FOOD BOXES AVERAGE 28 POUNDS OF FRESH MEAT, DAIRY, EGGS, FRESH PRODUCE, AND SHELF STABLE GOODS.
HOMELESS PROGRAM: THE HELEN WRIGHT CENTER SERVES ADULT HOMELESS WOMEN. WE OPERATE THREE FACILITIES TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING. CASE MANAGERS ASSIST WOMEN WITH LEASES, SECURITY DEPOSITS, UTILITIES, AND HOUSING PLACEMENTS. JOB TRAINING IS OFFERED ONSITE AND ONLINE, PROVIDING CERTIFICATES FOR LIVING-WAGE JOBS TO BETTER AFFORD LEASES UPON GRADUATION.
