THE CSC PROVIDED LEADERSHIP TO IDENTIFY RESOURCES, BUILD CAPACITY AND MAXIMIZE COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS TO SUPPORT HEALTHY FAMILIES AND VIBRANT COMMUNITIES. FORMED BY RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OR SUPERVISORS IN EARLY 2002, THE SISKIYOU CSC WAS DESIGNATED THE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL (CAPC) FOR SISKIYOU COUNTY CALIFORNIA. SINCE THAT TIME THE CSC HAS CONTINUED TO EVOLVE TO MEET THE COMMUNITIES CHANGING NEEDS. A FOUNDATIONAL FOCUS OF THE CSC IS TO RESEARCH AND PROMOTE COUNTY WIDE STRATEGIES AIMED AT THE ROOT CAUSES OF CHILD ABUSE. WE PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO ADDRESS ISSUES INCLUDING POVERTY, SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION, ACCESS TO PRIMARY AND MENTAL HEALTH CARE AND UNSUITABLE HOUSING. THE SISKIYOU COMMUNITY SERVICES COUNCIL PRIMARY PURPOSES: 1. TO ACT AS SISKIYOU COUNTY'S CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL IMPROVING THE COMMUNITY'S EFFORTS TO PREVENT AND RESPOND TO CHILD ABUSE. 2. TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO IDENTIFY RESOURCES, BUILD CAPACITY AND MAXIMIZE COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS TO SUPPORT HELATHY FAMILIES AND VIBRANT COMMUNITIES. BACKGROUND: ORIGINALLY FORMED IN 2002 BY THE SISKIYOU COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, THE COMMUNITY SERVICES COUNCIL (CSC) BECAME A NONPROFIT 501(C)(3) CORPORATION IN 2005. THE CSC MAINTAINS ITS ORIGINAL FUNCTION OF OVERSEEING THE COORDINATION, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF POLICIES AFFECTING SERVICE DELIVERY IN SISKIYOU COUNTY. IN THIS CAPACITY, THE CSC SERVES AS ADVISORY TO THE SISKIYOU COUNTY AND VARIOUS OTHER NONPROFIT AND COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, HEALTH AND EDUCATIONAL ORIGINS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. THE CSC RECEIVES FUNDING THROUGH A VARIETY OF SOURCES INCLUDING STATE, FEDERAL AND FOUNDATION GRANTS, DONATIONS, CONTRACT FEES AND CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION TRUST FUNDS. THE COMMUNITY SERVICES COUNCIL FUNCTIONS AND THE UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION FOR A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY COALITIONS INCLUDING THE SISKIYOU SUBSTANCE ABUSE COALITION (SSAC) AND SISKIYOU ANTI-TRAFFICKING COALITION (SATCO). SSAC IS FOCUDED ON RESEARCHING AND PROMOTING ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN CHILDREN AND TEENS. SATCO IS THE LEAD ENTITY IN THE EDUCATION COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION STRATEGIES. CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL: AS SIKIYOU COUNTY'S DESIGNATED CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL (CAPC), THE CSC COMPLIES WITH ESTABLISHED STATE AND COUNTY GUIDELINES FOR CAPCS. THE REUIREMENTS INCLUDE WORKING CLOSELY WITH CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES AND OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT ANNUAL PLANS FOR REDUCING CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. THE CSC TAKES A ROOT CAUSE APROACH TO CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION, WITH A FOCUS ON ELIMINATING OR MINIMIZING THOSE FACTORS THAT INCLUDE PVERTY, FOOD SCARCITY, UNSUITABLE HOUSING, SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND LACK OF ACCESS TO MEDICAL, DENTAL AND MENTAL HEALTH CARE. COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT IS A YEAR ROUND EFFORT THE CSC LOCAL EVENTS AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES REACHED THEIR HIGHEST LEVELS IN APRIL TO COINCIDE WITH NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH.
