DURING 2022 WILDERNESS EAST (WE) FURTHERED ITS MISSION OF ADVANCING WILDLANDS PROTECTION IN OHIO BY WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH HIGHLANDS NATURE SANCTUARY (HNS) TO ACQUIRE NEW NATURAL AREAS AND HOLD THEM UNTIL FUNDS COULD BE RAISED BY HNS TO BUY AND PERMANENTLY PROTECT THEM. WE ACQUIRED, VIA A SECURED PROMISSORY NOTE WITH HNS, AN 18.88 ACRE PARCEL OF LAND LOCATED IN HIGHLAND COUNTY KNOWN AS PICKETT RUN WETLANDS. ADDITIONALLY, WE TRANSFERRED TO HNS VIA THE FORGIVENESS OF SECURED PROMISSORY NOTES WITH HNS, 1) 6.027 ACRES OF LAND IN ADAMS COUNTY THAT EXPANDED A PRE-EXISTING NATURE PRESERVE KNOWN AS KAMAMA PRAIRIE AND PROVIDED THE PRESERVE WITH ITS FIRST ROAD ACCESS AND TRAILHEAD, AND 2) A 16.72 ACRE EXPANSION TO CLIFF RUN PRESERVE IN ROSS COUNTY THAT ADDED A SIGNIFICANT NEW PORTION OF LEWIS FAMILY GORGE UNDER PROTECTION.
