STATE ADVOCACY: HAWCNY AND ITS MEMBERS, WORKING WITH THE HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK STATE (HANYS) AND NEW YORK'S ALLIED ASSOCIATIONS, ADVOCATED AGAINST PROPOSED CUTS IN HEALTHCARE FUNDING AND NEW TAXES ON HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS. THESE SUCCESSFUL EFFORTS HELPED MAINTAIN CRITICAL HEALTHCARE SERVICES IN WESTERN NEW YORK AND PRESERVE VITAL HEALTHCARE JOBS IN PROVIDERS IN WESTERN AND CENTRAL NEW YORK. ALSO, HAWCNY WORKED TO ENSURE THAT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF REGULATIONS AND LEGISLATION SUPPORTS AND ADVANCES THE DELIVERY OF HEALTHCARE IN NEW YORK STATE.

HAWCNY ALSO ADVOCATED FOR THE ADOPTION OF HEALTHCARE REFORMS THAT WOULD EXPAND ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE INSURANCE AND IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF PROVIDERS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES.
HAWCNY WORKED IN VARIOUS WAYS TO PROMOTE COLLABORATION AMONG ITS HOSPITAL MEMBERS AND THEREBY ENHANCE PATIENT CARE, IMPROVE QUALITY, IMPROVE EFFICIENCY AND REDUCE COSTS. SPECIFICALLY, HAWCNY ALSO ASSISTED AND SUPPORTED ITS HOSPITAL MEMBERS IN THE ERIE-NIAGARA COMBINED STATISTICAL AREA IN EVALUATING AND ORGANIZING THEIR WAGE INDEX REPORTS TO THE CENTERS FOR MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SERVICES. IN DOING SO, HAWCNY SUPPORTED HOSPITALS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO SECURE APPROPRIATE REIMBURSEMENT FOR HEALTHCARE STAFF WHICH ACTED AS A STABILIZING FACTOR IN ENSURING CONTINUED ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE SERVICES.
A) HAWCNY LED THE ANNUAL WAGE INDEX PROJECT FOR ITS MEMBERSHIP TO ENSURE THAT HOSPITALS ARE BEING COMPENSATED PROPERLY FOR WHAT IS PAID TO EMPLOYEES.B) HAWCNY IS COORDINATING THE HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE, WHICH BRINGS TOGETHER REPRESENTATIVES FROM MEMBER HOSPITALS TO SHARE INFORMATION AND DISCUSS PROBLEMS AND TO DEVELOP AND ANALYZE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO COMMON WORKFORCE PROBLEMS FACING THE HAWCNY MEMBERSHIP.
