TO PROTECT AND SUPPORT INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND TRADITIONAL POPULATIONS OF THE RAINFOREST IN THEIR EFFORTS TO PROTECT THEIR ENVIRONMENT AND DEFEND THEIR RIGHTS, TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR COMMUNITIES, AND TO CHALLENGE GOVERNMENT PRACTICES WHICH HAVE A DAMAGING EFFECT ON THEIR ENVIRONMENT.

COSTA RICA -THIS PROJECT SUPPORT INDIGENOUS PEOPLE BRIBRI DE SALTIRE PUNTERENAS PROVINCE IN DEFENSE OF THEIR ANCESTRAL LAND AND LEGAL RIGHTS (FPP). THE SUPPORT HAS PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE IN EMPOWERING THE BRIBRI AND NEIGHBORINGBRORAN COMMUNITIES TO DEFEND THEMSELVES AGAINST ILLEGAL AND VIOLENT ATTACKS BY INVADERS. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS AN URGENT NEED TO STRENGTHEN THEIR CULTURAL IDENTITY AND OVERCOME GOVERNMENT RESISTANCE.


THE ORGANIZATIONS PROGRAMS SERVICES ARE PRIMARILY BASED OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES. SEE SCHEDULES F AND I FOR PROGRAM SERVICES.


KENYA - "CHEPKITALE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DEVELOPMENT PROJECT - CIPDP" - THIS PROJECT IS A CONTINUATION OF OUR PREVIOUS YEARS PROJECT. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF IT IS TO SECURE THE CHEPKITALE OGIEK COMMUNITY'S ANCESTRAL LAND.


BRAZIL - "AMAPA INDIGENOUS AND TRADITION RIGHTS"- TO STRENGTHEN INDIGENOUS AND QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITIES RESPONSE TO ADVANCE OF DEFORESTATION AND RECOGNITION OF TRADITIONAL LAND RIGHTS (ECAM).
