Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
GREENGOAT WORKS WITH CONTRACTORS, ARCHITECTS, AND BUILDING OWNERS TO MAXIMIZE RESOURCE CONSERVATION DURING CONSTRUCTION.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
HOME TO HOME: AS OF YEAR END (WITH INCEPTION-THROUGH-YEAR END IN PARENTHESES), GREENGOAT SUCCESSFULLY RESCUED 217 (2,713) TONS OF MATERIAL, THANKS TO 32 PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. RESCUED EMBODIED ENERGY IS 4.1 (45) BILLION BTUS OF EMBODIED ENERGY, AND 188 (2013.7) TONS OF CO2. A HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR WAS SAVING MATERIALS FROM A HOUSE FROM THE 20'S THAT WAS BUILT WITH HISTORIC MATERIALS. WE WERE SORRY TO SEE THE HOUSE GO, BUT WE WERE VERY HAPPY TO PASS ALONG SUCH ASTOUNDING MATERIALS.
OFFICE-TO-OFFICE: COMMERCIAL REDISTRIBUTION IS A MINOR ASPECT OF OVERALL PROGRAMMING, BUT WE ARE REIMAGINING THIS PROGRAM (IN CONJUNCTION WITH JOB TRAINING AND MARKET BUILDING) TO CONTINUE WORK IN OUR OCEAN PLASTIC PROJECT, WHICH WILL SEEK TO ACTUALLY SOURCE OCEAN PLASTIC OF TYPES REUSABLEAND REMAKE THEM FOR THE BUILDING INDUSTRY AS ACCESSORY / NON-STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS. WORK IS JUST BEGINNING HERE.
GREEN BUILDING: AS PART OF ITS COMMITMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE, CAMBRIDGE HOUSING AUTHORITY SPECIFIES RECYCLING AND SALVAGE FOR ITS AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECTS. GREENGOAT HAS BEEN A PARTICIPANT IN SEVERAL OF ITS PROJECTS, MAKING SURE THAT RECYCLING LEVELS MEET OR EXCEED 75% LEVELS.JOB DEVELOPMENT: AS PART OF OUR COMMITMENT TO STEMMING THE "TIDE" OF WASTE, THAT GOAL TAKES ON LITERAL MEANING IN OUR OCEAN PLASTIC PROJECT. DURING THE YEAR, WE PARTICIPATED IN THE "PLASTICS IN OUR OCEAN" CONFERENCE TO REFINE OUR IDEAS AND MEET OTHERS TACKLING THE SAME CHALLENGE. MARKET DEVELOPMENT: THREE PROGRAMS JOIN IN ONE PROJECT FOR OCEAN PLASTIC, WHICH WILL HELP US FIND APPLICATIONS FOR RIGID PLASTIC FROM THE PLASTIC "ISLANDS" (MOST NOTABLY, THE ISLAND IN THE PACIFIC, OFF HAWAII). MORE TO COME ON THIS EXTREMELY TIMELY PROJECT. AS COVID CONCERNS EAT INTO PLASTIC REUSE AND RECYCLING, WE HOPE FOR A POST-PANDEMIC REFOCUS! SO FAR, OUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IS ATTENDANCE AT A CONFERENCE AND SKETCHING OUT GRANT PROPOSALS FOR 2020.
