ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, OUTREACH AND COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES IN CONNECTICUT, BOTH AS MEMBERS OF LOCAL ARC CHAPTERS AND RESIDENTS OF THE STATE. WITH A FOCUS ON BEST PRACTICES IN THE FIELD, THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH MECHANISMS SUCH AS MEETINGS, SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS, FAMILY SEMINARS, SOCIAL MEDIA, DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC, POLICY MAKERS AND LAW MAKERS, ETC.
WORK WITH LIKE-MINDED GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPACT PUBLIC PERCEPTION AND PUBLIC POLICY AND TO EFFECT CHANGE IN LINE WITH THE MISSION OF THE ARC OF CONNECTICUT.
SUPPORT AND ENFORCEMENT OF THE MESSIER SETTLEMENT, WHICH ALLOWS FOR PERSONS TO LIVE IN COMMUNITIES OF THEIR CHOICE RATHER THAN AN INSTITUTION. THE MESSIER SETTLEMENT IMPACTED APPROXIMATELY 500 INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES LIVING IN THE SOUTHBURY TRAINING SCHOOL.
