DURING 2021 THE ROCHESTER LAND TRUST CONTINUED STEWARDSHIP OF 974 ACRES OF CONSERVATION LAND OWNED AND UNDER CONSERVATION RESTRICTIONS AT THE BEGINNING OF 2021. ALSO DURING 2021 THE ROCHESTER LAND TRUST ENTERED INTO A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BUZZARDS BAY COALITION TO PRESERVE A 58.5 ACRE PROPERTY KNOWN AS DOGGETT'S BROOK FARM. THE BBC ACQUIRED THE PROPERTY WITH THE INTENTION OF FINDING A FARMER WHO WOULD KEEP THE FARM IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION. THE RLT THROUGH ITS OWN FUND RAISING FROM MEMBERS AND A FOUNDATION GRANT CONTRIBUTED $99,200 TO THE PROJECT.THE BBC HAS A FOUND A LOCAL FARMER AND HAS THE PROPERTY TRANSFER IN AGREEMENT. AS PART OF THE TRANSACTION, THE BBC IS REQUIRING AT CLOSING THAT THE FARMER CONVEY A CONSERVATION RESTRICTION TO THE BBC OVER 38 ACRES OF THE PROPERTY THAT WILL BE USED FOR FARMING. A SECOND CONSERVATION RESTRICTION WILL BE CONVEYED TO THE RLT AND BBC ON THE REMAINING 20.5 ACRES TO PROTECT LAND ALONG DOGGETT BROOK AND INCLUDES A TRAIL EASMENT AND PUBLIC ACCESS. THE PROPERTY'S AGRICULTURAL FIELDS, STREAM-FRONT WETLANDSAND MIXED HARDWOOD AND PINE WOODLAND OCCUPY A STRATEGIC LOCATION PROTECTING WILDLIFE HABITAT AND CLEAN WATER. DOGGETT BROOK FLOWS THROUGH THE SOUTHERN END OF THE PROPERTY ON ITS WAY TO THE SIPPICAN RIVER AND BUZZARDS BAY. PROTECTION OF THESE LANDS WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN SUPPORTING WILDLIFE HABITAT IN THE BROOK AND KEEPING CLEAN WATER FLOWING TO THE BAY.
