LAND CONSERVATION AND OUTREACH - THE TRUST ACQUIRES OR FACILITATES ACQUISITION OF LAND IN STOW, MA, TO PRESERVE IT AS OPEN SPACE. TRUST MEMBERS WORK WITH LAND OWNERS, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, AND OTHER LAND TRUSTS TO PROVIDE EXPERTISE IN PLANNING, ORGANIZING, AND PRESENTING CASES FOR FUTURE LAND ACQUISITIONS OR CONSERVATION RESTRICTIONS. THIS YEAR WE WORKED WITH THE TOWN OF STOW AND THE LAKE BOON ASSOCIATION TO FINALIZE THE CONSERVATION OF HALLOCK POINT, THE LARGEST REMAINING UNDEVELOPED PROPERTY ON LAKE BOON. WE ALSO CONTINUED OUR WORK WITH THE TOWN OF STOW AND OTHER GROUPS ON THE PLANS TO PRESERVE THE MAJORITY OF THE STOW ACRES GOLF COURSE FOR OPEN SPACE AND RECREATION.
STEWARDSHIP - SCT ACTIVELY STEWARDS SEVERAL CONSERVATION PROPERTIES IN TOWN, MONITORING FOR ENCROACHMENTS AND MAINTAINING TRAILS FOR USE BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THIS YEAR WE COMMISSIONED PROPERTY BOUNDARY SURVEYS ON SEVERAL OF OUR PROPERTIES; REPLACED A BOARDWALK OVER A SMALL STREAM ON ONE OF OUR PROPERTIES; AND PAID FOR A BASELINE DOCUMENT TO BE RESEARCHED AND WRITTEN ON A RECENTLY ACQUIRED CONSERVATION RESTRICTION. WE ALSO EMPLOYED OUR VOLUNTEER "STEW CREW" ON NUMEROUS STEWARDSHIP EVENTS INCLUDING TRAIL MARKING/MAINTENANCE AND REMOVING INVASIVE SPECIES.
EDUCATION - SCT SEEKS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING LAND FOR THE FUTURE VIA VARIOUS COMMUNITY EVENTS AND AWARENESS- GENERATING ACTIVITIES. THIS YEAR WE INSTALLED TWO DIFFERENT STORYWALK BOOKS IN OUR LEGGETT PROPERTY, WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO GET FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN OUT EXPLORING THE TRAILS, FOLLOWING THE STORY ALONG THE WAY.
