THE MISSION OF THE CHILD WELFARE BOARD OF WICHITA COUNTY, INC. IS TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT BENEFITS TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES SERVED BY CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES THROUGH ASSISTANCE TO FRONT-LINE CASEWORKERS TO SUPPORT THEIR WORK TO STRENGTHEN AND STABILIZE FAMILIES SO THAT THEY CAN BE SAFE AND PROTECTED FROM ABUSE AND NEGLECT. IN 2021 THE CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES PROGRAM IN WICHITA COUNTY INVESTIGATED OVER 1,500 REPORTS OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT TO CHILDREN RESULTING IN REMOVAL OF 157 CHILDREN. DURING THE YEAR THERE WAS AN AVERAGE OF 178 CHILDREN IN SUBSTITUTE CARE AND THESE ARE THE CHILDREN SERVED BY THE CHILD WELFARE BOARD ALONG WITH CHILDREN PLACED WITH RELATIVES AND CHILDREN REMAINING IN THEIR OWN HOMES UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES. THE BOARD PROVIDED CLOTHING, SCHOOL SUPPLIES, CAMP FEES, RENT DEPOSITS AND RENT FOR PARENTS SO SOME OF THESE CHILDREN COULD BE RETURNED TO THE PARENTS, TRANSPORTATION FOR THE PARENTS TO VISIT THE CHILDREN WHILE THERE WERE IN MANAGING CONSERVATOIRE OF THE AGENCY, MEDICAL, OPTICAL, AND DENTAL CARE FOR THE CHILDREN NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE, SNACKS FOR THE VISITATION CENTER, GRADUATION GIFTS, CHRISTMAS GIFTS, SNACKS FOR THE FAMILY GROUP DECISION CONFERENCING, FUNDS TO HELP RELATIVES AND SIGNIFICANT INDIVIDUALS GET HEALTH INSPECTIONS, FIRE INSPECTIONS, TB TESTS, FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND OTHER NECESSARY ITEMS TO MAKE THEIR HOMES SAFE. THE CHILD WELFARE BOARD ALSO PROVIDED TECHNOLOGY FOR STAFF TO BE ABLE TO GET MORE DETAILED CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON PARENTS AND/OR RELATIVES SEEKING CUSTODY OF CHILDREN. THE BOARD OPERATES THE WICHITA COUNTY RESOURCE ROOM WHICH IS LOCATED AT THE CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES. THIS ROOM IS DESIGNED TO MEET IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THEIR HOMES. DURING THE YEAR 2021, 1,142 CHILDREN WERE SERVED.THE CHILD WELFARE BOARD RECEIVES FUNDING FROM WICHITA COUNTY, FROM JURY FEES, ONE GRANT FOR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR THE CHILDREN, AND MISCELLANEOUS DONATIONS.
