THE KENNEBEC RIVER RAIL TRAIL IS A 6.5 MILE TRAIL THAT RUNS ALONG HE WEST SIDE OF THE KENNEBEC RIVER FROM AUGUSTA TO GARDINER. THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE FRIENDS IS TO RAISE FUNDS AND RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS FOR TRAIL CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLING AMENITIES AND MAINTENANCE OF THE TRAIL.
THE TRAIL IS OPEN TO WALKERS, JOGGERS, CANINE FRIENDS AS WELL AS BICYCLISTS AND INLINE SKATES BUT NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES EXCEPT WHEEL CHAIRS, EMERGENCY VEHICLES OR POLICE VEHICLE, MAINTENANCE CREWS. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ARE REPRESENTED BY RESIDENTS OR MUNICPAL OFFICERS FROM EACH OF THE FOUR MUNICIPALITIES.
