BUILDING UPON A LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP IN AMERICAN THEATRE. SEE PART III FOR A FULL MISSION STATEMENT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE PRESENTED THE 2022 SEASON IN THE LEARY PAVILION - A 25,000 SQUARE FOOT STEEL FULLY COVERED, OPEN AIR VENUE. FULLY WIRED FOR LIGHTS AND SOUND, THE STAGE WAS 75' WIDE. THE SEATING IN THE PAVILION WAS SOCIALLY DISTANCED 6' APART FOR THE FIRST SHOW ("SPAMALOT") AND THEN 2' APART FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON. THE SEATS WERE SOLD IN PODS (TWO SEATS = 1 POD). THE PAVILION HAD 4 MAIN ENTRANCES - 3 OF THE 4 ENTRANCES WERE KEPT OPEN DURING THE PERFORMANCE. WE PRESENTED 4 PRODUCTIONS; "SPAMALOT", "ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE", "MYSTIC PIZZA" (WORLD PREMIERE) AND "YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN." WE HAD TO CANCEL 2 MATINEE PERFORMANCES DUE TO EXTREME HEAT IN THE TENT. WE PERFORMED FOR CLOSE TO 58,000 PEOPLE BETWEEN JUNE 16 - OCTOBER 31.
IN 2021, BASED ON THE SUCCESS OF THE CABARETS IN 2020, OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE PRESENTED 9 CABARETS. EACH CABARET PERFORMED 2-3 PERFORMANCES EACH. SEATING CAPACITY FOR EACH PERFORMANCE WAS LIMITED TO 100 SEATS AND WAS HELD IN THE OUTDOOR SPACE BY THE PATIO BAR. ALMOST 1000 PATRONS ATTENDED THESE PERFORMANCES THAT SPANNED OVER 9 WEEKENDS FROM JUNE 4 - SEPTEMBER 19.
OUR YOUTH PROGRAMMING, NEWLY BRANDED AS THE OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE ARTS ACADEMY, SHIFTED FROM ONLINE PROGRAMMING, DEVELOPED FOR 2020 BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, TO IN PERSON PROGRAMMING DURING THE 2021 SEASON. ALL PROGRAMS WERE HELD ON THE PLAYHOUSE GROUNDS AND INCLUDED TUITION BASED COURSES FOR AGES 5-18 AND PUBLIC TICKETS SALES. ALL CLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS WERE STAFFED BY PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS FROM THE BROADWAY COMMUNITY AND OVERSEEN BY OUR EDUCATION DIRECTOR AND ASSOCIATE EDUCATION MANAGER, A NEW POSITION DEVELOPED FOR 2021. SUMMER 2021 HAD 10 WEEKS OF PROGRAMMING WITH DISTINCT AND UNIQUE ONE, TWO, THREE AND FOUR WEEK PROGRAMS. OUR POPULAR MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE CAMPS FOR AGES 12-18 INCLUDED THE MUSICALS DISNEY'S "FROZEN JR.", "THE LITTLE MERMAID", THE PRINCE STREET PLAYERS VERSION OF "ALICE IN WONDERLAND"PINKALICIOUS", BASED ON THE POPULAR CHILDREN'S BOOK. THESE SHOWS WERE PERFORMED ON OUR MAIN STAGE THAT TOOK PLACE UNDER AN OUTDOOR TENT DUE TO COVID PROTOCOLS. THE STUDENTS AGED 5-11 PERFORMED THE MUSICALS "COULD YOU HUG A CACTUS", "LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD", "GOIN' BUGGY", "THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA"THE VELVETEEN RABBIT." WE ALSO INTRODUCED A NEW ACTING & IMPROVISATION COURSE FOR THE SUMMER, WHICH WAS WELL ATTENDED. DURING 8 WEEKS DURING THE FALL WE RAN ONE PROGRAM THAT WAS DEVELOPED IN CONJUNCTION WITH MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL AS A WORKSHOP. THE ACADEMY HAD A TOTAL OF 158 STUDENTS DURING THE COURSE OF THE SUMMER AND FALL WITH STUDENTS PARTICIPATING FROM OUR IMMEDIATE REGION AS WELL AS STUDENTS WHO TRAVELED FROM CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, ARIZONA, TEXAS, AND NEW YORK TO PARTICIPATE.
