THE MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT HONORS THE LEGACY LEFT BY KING DAVID KALAKAUA, WHO INSPIRED THE PERPETUATION OF HAWAIIAN TRADITIONS, NATIVE LANGUAGE AND THE ARTS.

THE MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL WAS ORGANIZED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROMOTING AND PERPETUATING NATIVE HAWAIIAN CULTURE AND THE ART OF HULA. THE WEEK-LONG FESTIVAL INCLUDES ART EXHIBITS, A CRAFT FAIR, DEMONSTRATIONS, MUSIC PERFORMANCES, A ROYAL PARADE, AND A THREE-DAY HULA COMPETITION THAT HAS RECEIVED WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION FOR ITS HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE. THE ANNUAL FESTIVAL HAS LED TO A RENAISSANCE IN NATIVE HAWAIIAN CULTURE. THE FESTIVAL IS CONSIDERED THE WORLD'S PREMIER FORUM FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES TO DISPLAY THEIR SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE ART OF ANCIENT AND MODERN HULA.
