THE HARMONY PROJECT IS AN AWARD-WINNING RESEARCH-BASED PROGRAM THAT TARGETS AT-RISK YOUTH IN UNDERSERVED AREAS OF LOS ANGELES. WE PROMOTE POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ON-GOING YEAR-ROUND MUSIC LESSONS AND ENSEMBLE PARTICIPATION.

THE HARMONY PROJECT PROVIDES CHILDREN FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WITH A RIGOROUS MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM, INCLUDING INSTRUMENTS, WEEKLY INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS, ORCHESTRA AND CHOIR PROGRAMS, PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES, FIELD TRIPS TO CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERTS, AND A RANGE OF SUPPORTING RESOURCES. ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT NO COST TO STUDENTS. A VAST MAJORITY OF PARENTS REPORT IMPROVEMENTS IN THEIR CHILDRENS GRADES, BEHAVIOR, MOOD, AND HEALTH SINCE JOINING THE PROGRAM. COLLEGE ATTENDANCE IS ENCOURAGED THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH CA COMMUNITY COLLEGES, AND A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR ITS GRADUATES. OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ALSO ASSIST HARMONY PROJECT IN ITS MISSION BY DONATING SPACE AND FACILITIES FOR MUSIC INSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE. DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, HARMONY PROJECTS STUDENTS WERE INSTRUCTED VIA INTERNET DURING THE PAST FISCAL YEAR, BUT IN-PERSON MUSIC TRAINING AND PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN BE RE-STARTED IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING IN JUNE 2022, WITH THE SUPPORT OF ORGANIZATIONS DONATING REHEARSAL SPACE TO HARMONY PROJECTS STUDENTS ONCE AGAIN.
