IN 2021 THE FOUNDATION COMMITTED TWO AWARDS TO THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY TO SUPPORT SCHOLARLY RESEARCH AT CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD ARCHIVES AT THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY. THE CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS WERE GIVEN BY THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, SAN MARINO, CA 91108 IN 2021 FOR RESEARCH IN THE ISHERWOOD-BACHARDY ARCHIVES HELD THERE. THE CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD FOUNDATION MAINTAINS A WEBSITE THAT ILLUMINATES THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD AND HIS INFLUENCE ON OTHER WRITERS AND ARTISTS.THE FOUNDATION ALSO RUNS A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM.
A ONE-TIME ENDOWMENT WAS MADE TO THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY IN 2016 TO ESTABLISH A PERMANENT CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD/DON BACHARDY ENDOWED LECTURE SERIES. THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO CONSULT WITH THE LIBRARY OVER THE CHOICE OF SPEAKERS AND THE PRESENTATION OF THE EVENT. LECTURES DRAW ON THE HOLDINGS OF HUNTINGTON LIBRARY INCLUDING THE CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD PAPERS, WHICH AMOUNT TO MORE THAN 3000 ITEMS. ROBERT FLYNN JOHNSON DELIVERED THE 2022 ISHERWOOD-BACHARDY LECTURE ON APRIL 20, 2022. THE NEXT LECTURE IS PLANNED FOR APRIL 2024 WILL BE DELIVERED BY PICO IYER.THE ISHERWOOD-BACHARDY LECTURES ARE INTENDED TO ALLOW DISTINGUISHED ACADEMICS, WRITERS AND OTHER ARTISTS TO INITIATE A NEW KIND OF DISCUSSION INSPIRED BY THE PERSONAL AND ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF LIFE COMPANIONS CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD AND DON BACHARDY. LECTURES WILL FREELY ADDRESS THE WIDER CULTURE IN WHICH ISHERWOOD AND BACHARDY HAVE WORKED, INCLUDING LITERATURE, VISUAL ARTS, FILM AND THEATRE, AND THE GAY LIBERATION MOVEMENT.
THE CHRISTOHPER ISHERWOOD FOUNDATION APPROVED IN 2017 THE FOUNDATION'S PARTICIPATION WITH THE LOS ANGELES TIMES IN PROVIDING THE 2021 LOS ANGELES TIMES-CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD PRIZE FOR AUTOBIOGPRAHICAL PROSE. THE AWARD IS GIVEN ANNUALLY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOS ANGELES TIMES. THE PRIZE CATEGORY INCLUDES FICTION, TRAVEL WRITING, MEMOIR, AND DIARY TO HONOR CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOODS'S WORK ACROSS THOSE GENRES.
TO EXPRESS THE SPIRIT OF THE CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD FOUNDATION, THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED A PODCAST AND READINGS OF THE "THE ANIMALS: LOVE LETTERS BETWEEN CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD AND DON BACHARDY".THE CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD FOUNDATION HAS CREATED A NINE EPISODE PODCAST, THE ANIMALS," BASED ON THE LETTERS OF CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD AND DON BACHARDY AND INCLUDING AN AUDIO VERSON OF THEIR PLAY, "A MEETING BY THE RIVER."THE CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD FOUNDATION WORKED WITH ARCHITECTURAL HISTORIANS CHATTEL TO WIN A LOCAL HISTORIC CULTURAL LANDMARK DESIGNTION FOR THE ISHERWOOD-BACHARDY HOUSE AND STUDIO IN PACIFIC PALISADES, LOS ANGELES, CA.
