THE LONG BEACH PLAYHOUSE WAS THE CITY OF LONG BEACH'S FIRST PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATION, HAVING BEEN ORGANIZED IN 1929. THE PLAYHOUSE PRODUCES 13 PLAYS EACH YEAR WITH PERFORMANCES HELD 50 WEEKS OUT OF THE YEAR. THE PLAYS ARE TRADITIONAL, CLASSIC, CONTEMPORARY, AND NEW SCRIPTS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO CONDUCTS THEATRE EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS, NEW WORKS PROJECTS, VISUAL ART EXHIBITIONS, STUDENT INTERNSHIPS, AND BENEFIT PERFORMANCES. THE PLAYHOUSE PROVIDES NUMBEROUS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, IN PLAYS, EXHIBITS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS,AND THEATRE OPERATIONS. HIGHLIGHTS ARE AS FOLLOWS- QUALITY PRODUCTIONS AT AFFORDABLE PRICES TWO BEUATIFUL AIR CONDITIONED THEATRES COMFORTABLE INTIMATE SEATING CLOSE TO THE STAGE REFRESHMENTS BEFORE CURTAIN CALL AND DURING INTERMISSION MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT BEFORE CURTAIN CALL AND DURING INTERMISSION ART AND SCULPTURE EXHIBITS CONVENIENT & EASY TO REACH NEAR THE JUNCTION OF THE 405 & 605 FREEWAYS OPEN 50 WEEKS A YEAR ADULT ACTING WORKSHOPS SUMMER YOUTH WORKSHOPS IN MUSIC, SONG, AND DANCE STUDENT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS INTERNSHIPS IN COSTUMES, SCENERY, GRAPHIC DESIGN, AND THEATRE MGMT ADMISSION FREE STAGED READINGS OF ORIGINAL PLAYS SPECIAL FUNDRAISING PERFORMANCES ENTERTAINMENT EXCELLENCE-THE PLAYHOUSE'S PRODUCTIONS ARE RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR EXCELLENT QUALITY THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. WE CONSISTENTLY RECEIVE AWARDS AND CRITICAL ACCLAIM. AS A RESULT, WE DRAW 35,000 PEOPLE ANNUALLY TO OUR PERFORMANCES.
