ATC SHARES THE POWER OF THEATRE THROUGH VARIOUS OUTREACH PROGRAMS, EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, ACCESS INITIATIVES, AND COMMUNITY EVENTS. ATC FOCUSES ON TRAINING ARTISTS, AUDIENCES, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ABOUT THE CREATIVE POWER OF THEATRE REACHING FAR BEYOND THE METROPOLITAN AREAS OF TUCSON AND PHOENIX, ENRICHING THE THEATRE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ALL. EACH SEASON ATC PRODUCES AND PRESENTS SIX MAINSTAGE THEATRE PRODUCTIONS RANGING FROM REIMAGINED CLASSICS TO CONTEMPORARY PLAYS, ORIGINAL WORKS, AND INNOVATIVE MUSICALS, REACHING MORE THAN 130,000 PEOPLE EACH YEAR THROUGH PERFORMANCES, STUDENT MATINEES, AND COMMUNITY EVENTS IN BOTH THE TUCSON AND PHOENIX METROPOLITAN COMMUNITIES. OUR SIX VIRTUOSIC MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS ARE PRODUCED ANNUALLY WITH NATIONALLY AND LOCALLY RECOGNIZED THEATRE ARTISTS THAT KEEP ARIZONA CURRENT AND PART OF THE NATIONAL AND REGIONAL THEATRE INDUSTRY. UNLIKE ANY OTHER LORT (LEAGUE OF RESIDENT THEATRES) PROFESSIONAL THEATRE IN THE COUNTRY, ATC OPERATES IN TWO MAJOR ARIZONA CITIES. ATC'S ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, SEAN DANIELS, LEADS OUR ARTISTIC VISION AND IS PASSIONATE ABOUT CREATING WORK THAT REFLECTS THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH WE LIVE AS A VEHICLE TO TELL IMPACTFUL STORIES WHILE STRENGTHENING ATC'S CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE CULTURAL ECOLOGY OF OUR REGION. LAST SEASON OVER 39,000 SUBSCRIBER TICKETS WERE SOLD, WITH AN ADDITIONAL 30,000 INDIVIDUAL TICKETS PURCHASED THROUGHOUT THE SEASON.OUR ARTISTIC DEPARTMENT'S NEW WORKS PROGRAM IS ALSO A PART OF OUR OVERALL DIRECTION TO BECOME A NATIONAL THEATRICAL LEADER BY FOSTERING KEY VOICES OF PLAYWRIGHTS FROM ACROSS ARIZONA AND THE COUNTRY. WE PROVIDE PLAYWRIGHTS AND THEATER MAKERS, BOTH LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, A PLATFORM TO DEVELOP THEIR WORK. THROUGH WORKSHOPS AND READINGS, WE GIVE ARTISTS A PLACE TO INCUBATE AND LAUNCH PRODUCTIONS, BOTH AT ATC AND BEYOND. DEVELOPING NEW PLAYS THAT PREMIERE ON ATC'S STAGES AND THEN ENTER THE AMERICAN CANON IS ONE OF OUR KEY STRATEGIES; CREATING SHOWS THAT EVENTUALLY OPEN ON OUR STAGES IN ARIZONA, AND THEN TRAVEL ONTO NEW YORK AND OTHER LOCATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. IN OUR 2021-2022 SEASON, WE HELD 10 NEW PLAY DEVELOPMENT READINGS AND WORKSHOPS.ADDITIONALLY, ATC'S NATIONAL LATINE PLAYWRIGHTS AWARD, ESTABLISHED IN 1995, IS UNIQUE IN BOTH ITS LONGEVITY AND PRESCIENCE. THE AWARD SUPPORTS UNDER-REPRESENTED WRITERS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES, ITS TERRITORIES, AND MEXICO, PLAYING AN ACTIVE ROLE IN ADVANCING THE WORK OF MANY OF TODAY'S MOST CELEBRATED LATINE WRITERS. ATC'S LONG HISTORY OF RECOGNIZING LATINE VOICES ECHOES ITS EMBRACE OF NEW WORK THAT DOES NOT NEATLY COMPORT TO GENRE, FORM, OR SUBJECT. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, 92% OF THE AWARD RECIPIENTS HAVE GONE ON TO PRODUCE THEIR WORK ACROSS THE U.S. AND WORLDWIDE.
ATC'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS SERVE MORE THAN 4,500 STUDENTS PER YEAR THROUGH OUR STUDENT MATINEE PERFORMANCES, ANNUAL SUMMER ON STAGE STUDENT-LED PRODUCTION, AND THROUGH OUR ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM. THIS TOTALS MORE THAN 20,000 HOURS OF THEATRE EDUCATION LEARNING HOURS FOR STUDENTS PER YEAR, WITH 70 TITLE I SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN THESE PROGRAMS. THESE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ALSO INCORPORATE PRE-PERFORMANCE CLASSROOM VISITS, POST-SHOW DISCUSSIONS, AND ON-DEMAND CLASSROOM VIEWING. THESE ROBUST PROGRAMS HELP STUDENTS UNLEASH THEIR INNER STORYTELLER, ALLOWING YOUNG ARTISTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE THEIR OWN PROJECTS AND HONE THEIR CRAFT, FROM PERFORMANCE TO DESIGN AND TECHNICAL THEATRE MAKING.
ATC'S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES ENCOMPASS VALUABLE PARTNERSHIPS WITH OVER 50 COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, LOCAL BUSINESSES, AND OTHER NON-PROFITS THAT ALIGN WITH OUR CORE VALUES, MISSION, AND SPECIFIC WORKS ON OUR STAGES. THESE MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL PARTNERSHIPS HELP TO PROMOTE AND ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERS TO INCREASE BRAND AWARENESS, FOSTER CONVERSATIONS, AND THOUGHTFULLY SUPPORT THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH WE WORK AND LIVE THROUGH TRADE AGREEMENTS, EDUCATIONAL ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS, JOINT FUNDRAISERS, AND THROUGH IN-KIND DONATIONS. WE CONTINUE TO STRIVE TO REACH COMMUNITIES THAT ARE UNDERSERVED AND HAVE LITTLE TO NO ACCESS TO THEATRE THROUGH THESE UNIQUE PARTNERSHIPS AND INITIATIVES.
