Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
FOUNDED IN 1911, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (SCU) HAS BEEN A LEADER IN EDUCATING STUDENTS TO BE COMPETENT AND CARING INTEGRATIVE HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONERS FOR OVER 110 YEARS. SCU IS A PRIVATE, NON-PROFIT INSTITUTION. WE PROVIDE INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION THAT UNIQUELY COMBINES TRADITIONAL WESTERN MEDICAL, COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE, AND EASTERN MEDICAL APPROACHES TO HEALTHCARE. WE OFFER EIGHT DEGREE PROGRAMS. 1) DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC DEGREE (DC), 2) MASTER OF ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE (MACCHM), 3) DOCTOR OF ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE (DACCHM), 4) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN HEALTH SCIENCES (BSHS), 5) MASTER OF SCIENCE: PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, 6) MASTER OF SCIENCE IN HUMAN GENETICS AND GENOMICS (MSHGG), 7) MASTER OF SCIENCE IN MEDICAL SCIENCE (MSMS), AND 8) DOCTOR OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OTD). IN FALL 2022, WE HAD 1,220 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THESE PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION TO THESE, SCU OFFERS CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS IN AYURVEDA, HEALTH EDUCATION, AND HUMAN GENETICS AND GENOMICS, AS WELL AS AN ACCELERATED SCIENCE PREREQUISITE COMPLETION PROGRAM (AS). A TOTAL OF 306 DEGREES WERE GRANTED DURING THE YEAR - 156 DOCTOR DEGREES, 137 MASTER DEGREES, AND 13 BACHELOR DEGREES. STUDENTS IN OUR CLINICAL PROGRAMS CAN OBTAIN CLINICAL EXPERIENCES IN THREE SCU OWNED AND OPERATED CLINIC FACILITIES, NINE PARTNER HEALTH CENTERS, AND HUNDREDS OF AFFILIATED CLINIC SITES AND PRECEPTOR LOCATIONS.
SCU HEALTH PROVIDES WHOLE-PERSON INTEGRATIVE CARE TO OUR COMMUNITIES ACROSS LOS ANGELES AND ORANGE COUNTIES. AS THE ONLY WHOLE-PERSON, INTEGRATIVE ACADEMIC HEALTH CENTER ON THE WEST COAST, SCU HEALTH IS MAKING ADVANCES IN TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY EDUCATION, CLINICAL RESEARCH, AND CLINICAL PRACTICE. TEAMING WITH CIVIC AND SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS, EMPLOYERS, INSURERS, AND LOCAL HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONERS, SCU EXCELS IN THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF WHOLE HEALTH IN MEETING THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY. SCU HEALTH PROVIDED CARE AT 31,537 PATIENT VISITS (PV'S), INCLUDING 4,204 PV'S AT STUDENT HEALTH CENTERS, 4,091 AT LOW INCOME/FREE CARE CLINICS, 7,626 PV'S IN OUR TACTICAL SPORTS MEDICINE SITES SERVING PRIMARILY FIRST RESPONDERS, AND 15,616 PV'S IN OUR ON-SITE CLINIC FACILITY. 44% OF OUR PATIENT VISITS WERE WITH UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITIES. THE FIGURES ABOVE INCLUDE CARE FOR 1,933 PATIENTS ACROSS 35 CLINICAL COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS, 98% OF WHICH PROVIDED CARE TO UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES INCLUDING THOSE WITH POOR ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE DUE TO IMMIGRATION STATUS AND/OR FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.
