PHYSICIANS FOR A HEALTHY CALIFORNIA IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING COMMUNITY HEALTH, GROWING A DIVERSE PHYSICIAN WORKFORCE AND PROMOTING HEALTH EQUITY. OUR PROGRAMS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE PUBLIC HEALTH, PROVIDE CLINICAL PRACTICE SUPPORT AND IMPROVEMENT, AND ADDRESS THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH AND ACCESS TO CARE.

CALMEDFORCE IS THE GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION (GME) GRANT PROGRAM SUPPORTED THROUGH PROPOSITION 56 WHICH ALLOCATES APPROXIMATELY $40 MILLION TO PRIMARY CARE AND EMERGENCY MEDICINE GME PROGRAMS IN CALIFORNIA. THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA IS THE DESIGNATED RECIPIENT OF THE PROPOSITION 56 FUNDING AND HAS CONTRACTED WITH PHC TO ADMINISTER THIS GME GRANT PROGRAM. IN ITS INAUGURAL CYCLE IN JANUARY 2019, CALMEDFORCE AWARDED $38 MILLION IN NEW STATE TOBACCO TAX REVENUES TO GME PROGRAMS ACROSS THE STATE TO FUND APPROXIMATELY 150 PHYSICIAN RESIDENCIES. BETWEEN 2018 AND 2020, CALMEDFORCE HAS ALLOCATED MORE THAN $112 MILLION DOLLARS TO 262 GME PROGRAMS FUNDING 556 RESIDENT POSITIONS. CALMEDFORCE'S MOST RECENT GRANT CYCLE, 200 PRIMARY CARE AND EMERGENCY MEDICINE RESIDENTS WERE SUPPORTED THROUGH THIS GRANT PROGRAM. CALMEDFORCE IS COMMITTED TO GROWING A DIVERSE PHYSICIAN WORKFORCE BY SUPPORTING, INCENTIVIZING, AND EXPANDING GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION IN CALIFORNIA. ITS GOAL IS TO GROW AND STRENGTHEN THE PHYSICIAN PIPELINE TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF CALIFORNIA'S GROWING PATIENT POPULATION WITH A FOCUS ON MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED AREAS AND POPULATIONS.
CALHEALTHCARES ADMINISTERS LOAN REPAYMENT ON EDUCATIONAL DEBT FOR CALIFORNIA PHYSICIANS AND DENTISTS WHO PROVIDE CARE TO MEDI-CAL PATIENTS, WHICH REPRESENT ONE-THIRD OF CALIFORNIANS AND HALF OF THE STATE'S CHILDREN. ELIGIBLE PHYSICIANS CAN APPLY FOR UP TO $300,000 IN LOAN REPAYMENT IN EXCHANGE FOR A FIVE-YEAR SERVICE OBLIGATION. ELIGIBLE DENTISTS CAN APPLY FOR A LOAN REPAYMENT UP TO $300,000 IN EXCHANGE FOR A FIVE-YEAR SERVICE OBLIGATION OR A PRACTICE SUPPORT GRANT UP TO $300,000 IN EXCHANGE FOR A TEN-YEAR SERVICE OBLIGATION. CALHEALTHCARES COMMITS VOTER-APPROVED, STATE TOBACCO TAX REVENUES FROM PROPOSITION 56 (2016) TO SUPPORT AND INCENTIVIZE PHYSICIANS AND DENTISTS TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION IN THE MEDI-CAL PROGRAM. IN APRIL 2019, THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES (DHCS) LAUNCHED CALHEALTHCARES, AND DHCS HAS CONTRACTED WITH PHC TO ADMINISTER THE STATEWIDE PROGRAM. IN CALHEALTHCARES FIRST TWO ANNUAL CYCLES FOR FY 2018-19, FY 2019-20 AND FY 2020-21 CALHEALTHCARES AWARDED APPROXIMATELY $131.7 MILLION TO 571 PHYSICIANS AND DENTISTS PROVIDING CARE TO MEDI-CAL PATIENTS.
CALVAXGRANT PROGRAM. FUNDED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (CDPH) AND ADMINISTERED BY PHYSICIANS FOR A HEALTHY CALIFORNIA (PHC). PROVIDING PHYSICIAN PRACTICES (WITH 200 OR FEWER PHYSICIANS) UP TO $55,000 IN GRANT FUNDING SUPPORT, TO HELP OFFSET THE COSTS OF ADMINISTERING COVID-19 VACCINES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE PROGRAM ALSO REIMBURSED PHYSICIANS FOR RELATED EXPENSES INCURRED SINCE NOVEMBER 2020, INCLUDING STAFFING, TRAINING, TECHNOLOGY, INFRASTRUCTURE, SUPPLIES/EQUIPMENT AND ADMINISTERED OVERHEAD. SINCE IT LAUNCHED, IT RECEIVED 2,336 APPLICATIONS FROM MEDICAL ORGANIZATIONS REQUESTING SUPPORT FOR 3,041 SITES OF WHICH 1,779 VACCINATION SITES REFLECTED IN HEALTH EQUITY ZIP CODES, IDENTIFIED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (CDPH). THE AWARDEES REPORTED IN A SURVEY THAT 53% BECAME VACCINATORS SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF CALVAXGRANT AND 81% AWARDEES SAY THEY WOULD REMAIN COVID COMMUNITY VACCINATORS. 2,052 WERE THE NUMBER OF ORGANIZATIONS AWARDED, 2,790 SITES AWARDED, 1,610 AWARDED SITES IN EQUITY INDEX AND $29,500,000 WAS THE TOTAL GRANT AWARDED.
