IN 2019, PROJECT INFORM'S EDUCATIONAL DEPARTMENT ANSWERED NEARLY 1,650 HIV HEALTH INFOLINE CALLS AND 1,400 HCV HELPLINE CALLS; DISTRIBUTED 9,400 SETS OF THE HIV HEALTH & WELLNESS BOOKLETS; DISTRIBUTED 1,800 SETS OF HEPATITIS C AND HIV CO-INFECTION BOOKLETS; DEVELOPED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR HIV-POSITIVE PEOPLE ABOUT HEPATITIS C TRANSMISSION; UPDATED ITS GUIDE TO APPROVED TREATMENTS FOR HEPATITIS C INFECTION; DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 350,000 PIECES OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS REGARDING PREP AND LAUNCHED A PREP INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICE IN CALIFORNIA.
PROJECT INFORM'S PUBLIC POLICY PROGRAM PARTICIPATED IN KEY STAKEHOLDER ADVISORY COMMITTEES, ADVISORY BOARDS AND WORKGROUPS TO ENSURE THAT THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE WITH HIV AND HEPATITIS C ARE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN THE PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF HEALTH CARE CHANGES AND EXPANSIONS IN CALIFORNIA. THE POLICY PROGRAM ALSO HELPED LEAD EFFORTS TO STRENGTHEN STATE HIV AND PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THE CREATION OF A PREP FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, ADVOCACY FOR INCREASED FUNDUNDING FOR HIV AND HCV TESTING, ADVOCACY FOR LEGISLATION TO PERMIT THE FORMATION OF SAFE CONSUMPTION SPACES, ADVOCACY TO END RESTRICTIONS ON HCV TREATMENT, AND SUPPORT FOR LAUNCHING THE END HEP C SF STRATEGIC PLAN.
THE RESEARCH ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT LED A NATIONAL THINK TANK TO IDENTIFY ADDITIONAL STRATEGIES FOR RETAINING PEOPLE WITH HIV IN CARE AND TREATMENT; LED A NATIONAL THINK TANK ON THE USE OF GENETIC SEQUENCE DATA IN LINKING AND RETAINING PEOPLE WITH HIV IN CARE AND TREATMENT; A NATIONAL CONSULTATION REGARDING THE USE OF GENETIC HIV MEDIACATIONS; AND CONDUCTED SURVEYS OF HIV-POSITIVE PEOPLE TO ASSESS THEIR ATTITUDES ABOUT PARTICIPATION IN CLINICAL TRIALS TO ASSESS CANDIDATES FOR A CURE FOR HIV INFECTION.
