MUSEUM AND ATTRACTIONS.THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES AND MAINTAINS THE POINT ARENA LIGHT STATION (LISTED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTRY OF HISTORIC PLACES IN 1991) AND PROVIDES PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE LIGHT STATION GROUNDS AND MUSEUM. PRIOR TO THE 2020 COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WHICH CAUSED THE CLOSURE OF THE LIGHT STATION FROM MARCH THROUGH JUNE 2020, THE ORGANIZATION HAD PROVIDED GUIDED TOURS OF THE MUSEUM AND TOWER TO VISITORS, INCLUDING SPECIAL TOURS TO GROUPS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN. UPON REOPENING UNDER COVID-19 STATE AND COUNTY HEALTH ORDER RESTRICTIONS TOWER REMAINED CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC AND THE MUSEUM WAS RECONFIGURED TO BE PART OF THE LIGHT STATION STORE. THE ORGANIZATION CREATED A 23 ACRE OUTDOOR MUSEUM FEATURING SEVERAL AREAS OF INTEREST INCLUDING A STONE LABYRINTH, STONE ENTRY FENCE, STONE DRUIDS CIRCLE, GAZEBO, NATIVE PLANT GARDEN, WHALE TRAIL INTERPRETIVE SIGNAGE AND MORE. THE MUSEUM REOPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2020 WITH EXHIBITS INCLUDING THE RARE 1ST ORDER FRESNEL LENS, LOCAL ARTIFACTS AND PHOTOGRAPHS THAT TELL THE STORY OF LIFE ON OUR REMOTE COAST AND IN PARTICULAR THE LIVES OF THE FAMILIES WHO KEPT THE LIGHT BURNING AT THE POINT ARENA LIGHT STATION.
LODGING UNITS. MAJOR MAINTENANCE PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN IN 2019 AND 2020 INCLUDED COMPLETE REMODELING OF THE HEADKEEPER'S HOUSE, KEEPER'S APARTMENT AND CREATION OF AN ADA COMPLIANT STUDIO CALLED THE BOOKKEEPER'S ROOM. HEADKEEPER'S HOUSE AND KEEPER'S APARTMENT REMODELS WERE COMPLETED AT THE END OF 2019. BOOKKEEPER'S ROOM REMODEL WORK CONTINUED IN 2020 WITH WORK COMPLETED MAY 2021. EXPENSES OF $233,041 HAVEN BEEN NETTED AGAINST THE LODGING REVENUE REPORTED ON PAGE 9.
LIGHT STATION STORE.LIGHT STATION STORE, HOUSED IN THE HISTORIC FOG SIGNAL BUILDING, WAS EXPANDED INTO WHAT HAD BEEN THE DEDICATED MUSEUM IN JUNE 2020 DUE TO STATE AND COUNTY RESTRICTIONS ON INDOOR MUSEUMS. NEW FIXTURES AND MERCHANDISE WERE ORDERED AND INSTALLED AND INVENTORY WAS EXPANDED CONSIDERABLY.
