Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
OUR PROGRAM USES THE POWERFUL THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS AVAILABLE THROUGH HORSES AND NATURE TO CREATE A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES, AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO CARE FOR THEM.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2021, AS RESTRICTIONS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC BEGAN TO LIFT, WE RE-OPENED OUR DOORS AND BEGAN OFFERING FREE, IN-PERSON BACK-TO-THE-BARN VISITS, HELD SAFELY OUTDOORS, MASKED AND AT 6-FEET OF DISTANCE. THESE VISITS ALLOWED OUR PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO RECONNECT WITH OUR COMMUNITY WHILE THEY RECEIVED THERAPEUTIC INTERACTIONS FROM THEIR FAVORITE HORSES, AND SOCIALIZATION WITH STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THEIR NEEDS, MOST OF OUR STUDENTS REQUIRE VOLUNTEER SIDE-WALKERS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THEIR HORSEBACK RIDE. (CONTINUES BELOW)
BECAUSE OF THE SOCIAL DISTANCING MANDATE, WE DEVELOPED A MODIFIED LESSON PROGRAM IN WHICH WE OFFERED ONE-ON-ONE "GROUNDWORK" LESSONS WHERE PARTICIPANTS COULD LEARN TO GROOM, CARE FOR, AND AT TIMES, LEAD OUR HORSES FROM THE GROUND WHILE MAINTAINING SIX-FEET OF DISTANCE FROM OTHERS. SPRING MARKED THE THIRD SESSION OF THE PROGRAM YEAR,AND OUR HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED RETURN TO RIDING. THE FIRST 8-WEEK SESSION ENGAGED 45 STUDENTS OF VARYING AGES AND ABILITIES, ALL OF WHOM WERE GRATEFUL TO BE BACK IN THE SADDLE. BY YEAR'S END, WE SERVED 60 PARTICIPANTS EACH WEEK, AND OUR SCHEDULE CONTINUES TO GROW.
DESPITE THE CHALLENGES HALLECK CREEK RANCH FACED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE FOUND WAYS TO OFFER SERVICES ALL YEAR LONG IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT TO EACH INDIVIDUAL IN OUR INHERENTLY AT-RISK COMMUNITY. COMING FROM SEVEN BAY AREA COUNTIES INCLUDING ALAMEDA, CONTRA COSTA, MARIN, NAPA, SAN FRANCISCO,SOLANO, AND SONOMA, WE SERVED 75 PARTICIPANTS RANGING IN AGE FROM 5-84, WITH AT LEAST 50% OF OUR RIDERSHIP BEING UNDER THE AGE OF 18. PARTICIPANTS PRESENT WITH A RANGE OF CHALLENGES INCLUDING CEREBRAL PALSY, AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER, MOOD DISORDERS, MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, DOWN SYNDROME,BLINDNESS, DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY AND A NUMBER OF OTHERS.
