TO GIVE HIGH SCHOOL EQUESTRIAN ATHLETES AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE RECOGNITION IN A FAIR, POSITIVE, AND EDUCATIONAL FORMAT.

THE PROGRAM WAS FIRST FORMED IN 1993 IN SOUTHERN OREGON. NOW, AS A STATEWIDE PROGRAM, IT RUNS THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOLS AS A WINTER/SPRING SPORT WITH THREE MAIN COMPETITIONS, TWO OF WHICH THE ATHLETE MUST COMPETE IN TO QUALIFY FOR THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION. THOSE QUALIFIED IN THEIR DISTRICTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET AGAINST ALL DISTRICT WINNERS. ATHLETE OR ACTIVITY LETTERS MAY BE AWARDED TO PARTICIPANTS MEETING THE LETTERING REQUIREMENTS. HIGH SCHOOL EQUESTRIAN ATHLETES PAY FEES TO COMPETE AND STALL FEES FOR THEIR HORSES, ALL OF WHICH COVER THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COMPETITIONS. EQUESTRIAN ATHLETES AND THEIR TEAMS WORK TOGETHER TO DEVELOP TEAM RELATIONSHIPS WHICH ASSIST IN THE COMPETITIONS. ASSOCIATED VENDORS ARE ALLOWED BOOTH SPACE TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, SUPPLIES, AND SERVICES DURING COMPETITIONS.
