TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF COMPANION ANIMALS BY SHELTERING, REHABILITATING, REDUCING PET OVERPOPULATION AND FINDING PERMANENT HOMES. WE PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP, KINDNESS TO ANIMALS AND ENHANCEMENT OF HUMAN-ANIMAL RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH EDUCATION AND OUTREACH.

SHELTERING, REHABILITATIONG AND FINDING HOMES:IN 2021, SHS (SISKIYOU HUMANE SOCIETY) ASSISTED ALMOST 900 ANIMALS. SHS ACCEPTED 545 ANIMALS INTO OUR SHELTER: 199 ANIMALS SURRENDERED BY THEIR OWNERS; 115 STRAY ANIMALS DROPPED OFF BY THE PUBLIC; AND 8 WILDLIFE RESCUED. WE HOUSED 67 ANIMALS SEIZED BY MT SHASTA POLICE DEPARTMENT PER OUR CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF MT SHASTA. WE TRANSFERRED IN 212 ANIMALS FROM LOCAL AGENCIES. SHS ASSISTED 86 OWNED ANIMALS WITH SPAY AND NEUTERING EXPENSES AND TRANSPORTATION. SHS ADOPTED OUT 163 ANIMALS. PRIOR TO ADOPTION THE ANIMALS WERE SPAYED AND NEUTERED AND MICROCHIPPED. SHS TRANSFERRED 222 ANIMALS TO THE OREGON HUMANE SOCIETY SECOND CHANCE PROGRAM OR OTHER ORGANIZATIONS FOR ADOPTION. WE RETURNED 95 ANIMALS TO THEIR OWNERS THAT ARRIVED AS STRAYS. WE RELEASED 8 WILDLIFE TO WILDLIFE REHABILITATORS. WE ASSISTED OVER 320 PET OWNERS AND PUBLIC FINDERS WITH LOST AND FOUND PETS. PREVENTING PET OVERPOPULATION/OUTREACH ASSISTANCE:SHS PROVIDED SPAY AND NEUTER ASSISTANCE TO LOW INCOME FAMILIES BY TRANSPORTING THEIR PETS TO THE SNYP SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC IN TALENT OREGON, AND PAYING ALL EXPENSES FOR THE PROCEDURE. WE EDUCATE PET OWNERS BY CONSULTING IN PERSON OR BY PHONE REGARDING THE IMPORTANCE OF SPAYING AND NEUTERING TO PREVENT PET OVERPOPULATION. SHS COVERED EXPENSES AND TRANSPORTED ANIMALS TO BE SPAYED AND NEUTERED. IN 2020 SHS IMPROVED THE LIVES OF HUNDREDS OF ANIMALS BY PROVIDING PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE, VACCINATIONS, BLOOD TESTS, FECAL TESTS, FLEA TREATMENT AND DE-WORMING ANIMALS. SHS COVERS EXPENESES FOR ANY SHELTER ANIMALS NEEDING VETERINARY SERVICES AND TREATMENT. IN 2020 IMPLANTED 140 MICROCHIPS INTO CATS AND DOGS.FOSTER PROGRAM:SHS IMPROVED OUR KITTEN FOSTER PROGRAM BY REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH MULTIPLE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS FOR FOSTER FAMILIES. COMMUNTY OUTREACHKEEP THEM HOME PROGRAM:AFTER MEETING AND PLANNING SHS BOARD AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL BE IMPLEMENTING A NEW OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR LOW INCOME AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES NEEDING ASSISTANCE TO AVOID SURRENDERING THEIR PET DUE TO LACK OF RESOURCES. SHELTERS AND ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN OUR INDUSTRY HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROGRAM DURING THE PILOT STAGE, ALTHOUGH SOME DIVISIONS OF THE PROGRAM ARE NOW CURRENTLY IN OPERATION. BEHAVIOR TRAINING AND COUNCILING:SHS PROVIDED FREE BEHAVIOR CONSULTING FOR CATS AND DOGS TO PET OWNERS. WE PROVIDED TRAINING AND MANAGEMENT INFORMATION TO PET OWNERS TO ENCOURAGE SOLUTIONS OF PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIORS AND RETENTION OF PETS IN THE HOME. WE ALSO OFFERED SOCIALIZATION AND DOG-DOG PLAY OPPORTUNITIES WHERE NEW PUPPY OWNERS COULD BRING THEIR PUPS AND YOUNG DOGS TO THE SHELTER FOR SUPERVISED PLAY SESSIONS AND EDUCATION ABOUT APPROPRIATE DOG-DOG INTERACTIONS.PET DEPOSIT PROGRAM:SHS PROMOTES EDUCATION OF THE HUMAN-ANIMAL BOND AND ASSISTS SENIOR CITIZENS BY PAYING THEIR PET RENTAL DEPOSITS SO THAT THEY CAN KEEP THEIR PETS. THIS PROGRAM IS VITAL IN KEEPING ANIMALS AT HOME AND IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE OWNER AND THE PET, SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH HAS DEMONSTRATED THE LINK BETWEEN HUMAN-ANIMAL INTERACTION AND HEALTHY AGING.EDUCATION PROGRAM:WE PROVIDED SHELTER TOURS AND IN HOUSE EDUCATION PRESENTATIONS TO LOCAL STUDENTS. WE ASSISTED COUNTY WIDE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS.
