DISCOVERY COUNSELING CENTER OFFERS COUNSELING FOR: ADOLESCENT ISSUES; ALCOHOL AND DRUG RECOVERY; ANGER MANAGEMENT; ANXIETY; CHILD-LIFE ISSUES; CO-DEPENDENCY; COUPLES; DEPRESSION; DIVORCE; FAMILY ISSUES; GRIEF AND LOSS; LGBTQ+ SUPPORT; LOW SELF-ESTEEM; PARENTING/CO-PARENTING; ISSUES; TRAUMA RECOVERY.

SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELING AND INTERVENTION SERVICES (SCIP)THE PRIMARY GOAL OF SCIP IS TO PROVIDE PREVENTION AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO THE STUDENTS OF THE SRVUSD IN AN EFFORT TO MAINTAIN A SAFE AND HEALTHY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THE FOSTERING OF RESILIENCE IN CHILDREN AND YOUTH GIVES THEM THE CAPABILITY TO DEAL WITH DIFFICULT SITUATIONS. IN PROVIDING A RESOURCE FOR CHILDREN IN THEIR IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT, THERE IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO RESPOND TO THEIR NEED FOR SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE AND TO HELP THEM DEVELOP THE NECESSARY SKILLS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS, COPE WITH LIFE'S CHALLENGES, AND LIVE MORE EFFECTIVE LIVES.
4C ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION TEAM OF THE SAN RAMON VALLEY ASSEMBLED A COALITION OF COMMUNITY LEADERS TO REDUCE UNDERAGE DRINKING AND YOUTH ACCESS TO ALCOHOL AND DRUGS TO CREATE A HEALTHY AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUTH IN THE SAN RAMON VALLEY. THE COALITION FOCUSES ON CHANGING THE ENVIRONMENT IN WAYS THAT MAKE ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS LESS AVAILABLE AND APPEALING. SOME GOALS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PREVENTION ARE TO CHANGE SOCIAL NORMS OR ATTITUDES RELATING TO THE USE OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS, TO CONTROL THE AVAILABILITY AND TO STRENGTHEN ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING ITS USE.
THE THRIFT STATIONS BEGAN IN 1973. DISCOVERY CENTER'S SERVICES ARE SUPPORTED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE DISCOVERY CENTER WHO OPERATE THE THRIFT STATION RESALE SHOP IN DANVILLE, CA BY FUNDING FROM THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, SAN RAMON VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT, CLIENT FEES, CORPORATION AND COMMUNITY DONATIONS. THE THRIFT STATION WELCOMES QUALITY DONATIONS OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND CLOTHING. ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. THE THRIFT STATION IS MANAGED BY THE FRIENDS OF DISCOVERY CENTER, A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS WITH OVER 140 MEMBERS.
