SINCE 2000, THE FIFTYPLUS EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT PROGRAM HAS EMPOWERED WOMEN OVER 50 TOWARD ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY BY OFFERING JOB READINESS TRAINING AND JOB PLACEMENT SUPPORT. EACH YEAR WE SUPPORT AN AVERAGE OF 450 MATURE WOMEN IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA WITH JOB READINESS CLASSES, COMPUTER SKILLS TRAINING, JOB CLUBS, EMPLOYER FORUMS, RESUME REVIEWS, MOCK INTERVIEWS AND ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT THAT LEADS TO PLACEMENT AND RETENTION. THE PROGRAM HAS PROVEN SUCCESSFUL AT PREPARING OLDER JOB SEEKERS TO FIND AND SECURE STABLE EMPLOYMENT WHERE THEY EARN A LIVING WAGE, WHILE MINIMIZING THE AMOUNT OF TIME OUR CLIENTS ARE UNEMPLOYED.
THE ADVOCACY PROGRAM COMPLEMENTS OUR DIRECT SERVICES THAT ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF OUR CLIENTS THROUGH ADVOCATING FOR NEW AND/OR CHANGED POLICIES AND PROVIDES ISSUE EDUCATION TO OUR COMMUNITY ON WAYS TO ELIMINATE STRUCTURAL RACISM AND PROMOTE SYSTEMS THAT EMPOWER WOMEN. WE OFFER TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TO CLIENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. WE HOLD VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVES AND PROVIDE RESOURCES TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY LEARN HOW TO ENGAGE CIVICALLY. WE HOST INTERESTING AND PROVOCATIVESPEAKERS ABOUT SPECIFIC ISSUES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AND WE WORK WITH OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO ENSURE THAT THE ISSUES OUR CLIENTS CARE ABOUT ARE BEING REPRESENTED IN OUR DEMOCRACY.
