TO HELP CHILDREN DEVELOP SKILLS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND LIFE THROUGH LEARNING CHESS. CHESS FOR SUCCESS PROVIDES AFTER-SCHOOL CHESS PROGRAMS FOR 3,200 STUDENTS IN 82 SCHOOLS IN HIGH-POVERTY K-12TH GRADE SCHOOLS IN 20 SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND 9 COUNTIES IN OREGON AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON.

CHESS FOR SUCCESS REACHED OVER 4800 KIDS WITH ITS UNIQUE PROGRAMMING IN FY20. KIDS IN CHESS CLUBS LEARN HOW TO PLAY CHESS, WHILE GAINING IMPORTANT LIFE SKILLS. STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM DEVELOP INCREASED SELF-ESTEEM, EXHIBIT BETTER BEHAVIOR, AND SHOW IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. CHESS FOR SUCCESS IS IN 105 SCHOOLS IN OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON. CLUBS ARE PRESENT IN NINE COUNTIES AND IN 21 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. 67% OF OUR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS QUALIFY FOR FREE/REDUCED LUNCH, AND 53% OF THE CHILDREN WE REACH ARE STUDENTS OF COLOR. EVERY CHILD IN THE PROGRAM RECEIVES 50 HOURS OF CHESS LESSONS, A CHESS SET TO KEEP, A STUDENT-DESIGNED TEAM T-SHIRT, AND FREE ADMISSION TO ALL CHESS FOR SUCCESS TOURNAMENTS.
