KIDS FIRST PROVIDES A WARM SETTING WHERE OVER 650 CHILDREN WHO ARE VICTIMS OF, OR WITNESSES TO, CRIME IN LANE COUNTY EACH YEAR CAN RECEIVE FORENSIC INTERVIEWS, SPECIALIZED MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS, VICTIM ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT SERVICES, AND TESTIFY BEFORE LANE COUNTY'S SPECIALLY-CONVENED GRAND JURY FOR CHILD ABUSE CASES. OTHER SERVICES INCLUDE CASE MANAGEMENT AND A COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT FOLLOWED BY REFERRALS TO SERVICES AND RESOURCES TO MEET THE LEGAL, FINANCIAL, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF CHILD VICTIMS AND THEIR NON-OFFENDING FAMILY MEMBERS. WITHOUT KIDS FIRST, CHILDREN MAY HAVE TO GO UP TO SIX DIFFERENT PLACES-INCLUDING COURT ROOMS, POLICE STATIONS, EMERGENCY ROOMS AND MORE-TO TELL THEIR STORY.
