WE PURSUE INNOVATIVE WAYS TO TRANSFORM HEALTH CARE BY KEEPING PEOPLE HEALTHY, AND MAKING OUR SERVICES MORE CONVENIENT, ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE FOR ALL. IN AN INCREASINGLY UNCERTAIN WORLD, WE ARE COMMITTED TO HIGH-QUALITY, COMPASSIONATE CARE FOR EVERYONE - REGARDLESS OF COVERAGE OR ABILITY TO PAY. IN 2021, OUR SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE PURCHASING PROGRAM COMMITTED TO INCREASE OUR SPEND WITH WOMEN AND MINORITY OWNED BUSINESS ENTERPRISES BY OVER $300 MILLION ACROSS THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. WE ALSO DEPLOY AN INVESTING PORTFOLIO WHICH INCLUDES SHAREHOLDER ADVOCACY, IMPACT INVESTING, AND SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS PORTFOLIO SCREENS. IN 2021, PROVIDENCE MADE PROGRESS TOWARDS ITS CLIMATE COMMITMENT TO BECOME CARBON NEGATIVE BY 2030. WE ARE IMPLEMENTING AN ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP SYSTEM STRATEGY THAT ENCOURAGES WASTE REDUCTIONS, EFFICIENT ENERGY AND WATER USE, LOCAL AGRICULTURE PARTNERSHIPS, LESS TOXIC AND FEWER CHEMICAL USE, AND A REDUCTION IN CARBON FROM TRAVEL.PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:HOSPICE AREA OF GREATEST NEED FUND HELPS HOSPICE PATIENTS GET WHAT THEY NEED TO HAVE THE BEST QUALITY OF LIFE DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. MEDICAL SUPPLIES ARE PURCHASED IN UNIQUE SITUATIONS WHERE INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER THE NEED (OR WHEN THERE IS NO INSURANCE). COVID RESTRICTIONS HAVE PAUSED SOME COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES SUCH AS MUSIC THERAPY, MASSAGE, AND ACUPUNCTURE SERVICES BUT THEY WILL RESUME SOON. THE FOUNDATION WAS ABLE TO RENEW THE HOSPICE GARDEN. THE GARDEN IS AVAILABLE FOR PATIENTS AND CAREGIVERS TO ENJOY AND WAS IN NEED OF SOME TLC. THE FOUNDATION PAID FOR THE HOSPICE GARDEN WALLS TO BE CLEANED AND REPAINTED, BENCHES WERE SANDED AND REPAINTED, PLANTS WERE TRIMMED BACK, AND SOME NEW PLANTS WERE ADDED. THE GARDEN IS NOW WELCOMING TO ALL AND HAS A GATE THAT WAS ADDED SO THAT THE GARDEN CAN BE CLOSED DURING NON-BUSINESS HOURS.THE DON BENTON CANCER SERVICES FUND PROVIDES ADDITIONAL SERVICES FOR PATIENTS UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY. THIS YEAR THE FUND CONTINUED TO PAY FOR THE CANCER CARE BAGS FOR PATIENTS WHILE SUPPORT GROUPS AND MASSAGE SERVICES WERE STILL ON PAUSE. SOME ONCOLOGY PATIENTS REFERRED BY THE ONCOLOGY SOCIAL WORKER WERE ABLE TO RECEIVE FRESH VEGGIES AND RECIPES FROM GORGE GROWN. THROUGH THE FOUNDATIONS AREA OF GREATEST NEED FUND THEY WERE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE $23,347 NEEDED TO CONTINUE THE VEGGIE RX PROGRAM FOR ONCOLOGY PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE FRESH WEEKLY PRODUCE.THE PROVIDENCE HOOD RIVER HOSPITAL FOUNDATION DONATED $200,000 TO THE HOSPITAL FOR CAPITAL EQUIPMENT PURCHASES INCLUDING AN ENDOSCOPE, SHOULDER SURGERY CHAIR, AN ULTRASOUND FOR SURGICAL SERVICES. IN ADDITION, A DEXASCANNER AND AS SOFTWARE WERE PURCHASED FOR DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING. RESPIRATORY THERAPY RECEIVED A NEW STRESS TEST TREADMILL AND TWO STRETCHERS WERE BOUGHT FOR THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT. THE LAST ITEM WAS A MUCH-NEEDED BLOOD BANK FRIDGE FOR THE LAB.THE PROVIDENCE HOOD RIVER FOUNDATION PROVIDED A SCHOLARSHIP FOR A CAREGIVER TO FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION FOR A CNA2 PROGRAM.THE PROVIDENCE HOOD RIVER FOUNDATION DONATED $20,000 FOR THE JESUIT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN THE COMMUNITY. THE JESUIT VOLUNTEERS LIVE AND WORK IN THE COMMUNITY WITH NONPROFITS HELPING TO ADDRESS LOCAL NEEDS THAT INCLUDE EDUCATION, HEALTH, ACCESS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP. THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM EACH YEAR AS IT BRINGS SO MANY HEALTH-RELATED RESOURCES INTO THE COMMUNITY.TRAUMA NURSES TALK TOUGH HELMET SAFETY PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO GIVE AWAY OVER 400 HELMETS IN THE GORGE COMMUNITY IN 2021. ED AND TRAUMA NURSES PRESENT PROGRAMS IN THE COMMUNITY TO SCHOOL KIDS ON THE SAFETY OF PROTECTIVE GEAR SUCH AS BIKE HELMETS. PROVIDENCE HOOD RIVER FOUNDATION HAS BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE BIKE HELMETS TO MANY CHILDREN IN THE COMMUNITY. WE PARTICIPATED IN THE CHILDREN'S COMMUNITY FAIR HANDING OUT BIKE HELMETS. KIDS CAN SHOW UP AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM ADMITTING DESK AND ASK FOR A FREE BIKE HELMET AND GET FITTED FOR THE CORRECT SIZE HELMET. WE HAVE ALSO HAD SOME OF THE LOCAL SCHOOLS ASK FOR BIKE HELMETS FOR BIKING CLASSES AT SCHOOL AND WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SUPPLY THEM WITH THE HELMETS NEEDED TO ENSURE KIDS ARE SAFE ON THEIR BIKES.
