HEARTLAND'S MISSION IS TO BUILD A MORE COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY BY TEACHING HUMANE MESSAGES TO OUR YOUTH, CARING FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS AND STRENGTHENING THE HUMAN-ANIMAL BOND.

HEARTLAND PROVIDES LOST/FOUND SERVICES AND AN ADOPTION PROGRAM FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS. THIS YEAR, HEARTLAND SERVED 1,512 ANIMALS. 1,001 ANIMALS FOUND NEW, FOREVER HOMES THROUGH OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM, 275 PETS WERE RETURNED TO THEIR OWNERS, AND 16 ANIMALS WERE TRANSFERRED TO LOCAL ADOPTION PARTNERS. OVER 90% OF THE ANIMALS ENTERING OUR DOORS WERE SAVED. DOGS HAD A 21DAY AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY AND CATS HAD A 23 DAY AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY. IN OUR CLINIC, 743 HEARTLAND ANIMALS WERE SPAYED/NEUTERED AND 68 SPECIAL SURGERIES WERE PERFORMED. 46 SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES WERE PERFORMED FOR OTHER SHELTERS/RESCUE GROUPS.
EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC ON PET OWNERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES TRAINING TO THE PUBLIC ON PET OWNERSHIP AND CONTROL OF THE ANIMAL POPULATION, HUMANE EDUCATION ON BITE PREVENTION, BASIC ANIMAL CARE, AND DEVELOPMENT OF EMPATHY IN YOUTH. THIS PROGRAM WORKS WITH STUDENTS AND YOUTH CLUBS TO INSTILL AN APPRECIATION OF ANIMALS AND VOLUNTEERISM.
