BUILDING COMMUNITY: SILICON VALLEY TURKEY DUE TO THE ONGOING GLOBAL PANDEMIC THE ANNUAL APPLIED MATERIALS SILICON VALLEY TURKEY TROT WAS FORCED TO PIVOT TO A VIRTUAL FORMAT IN 2021. THE COMMUNITY/CHARITY 5K, 10K, AND KID'S FUN RUN DREW 9,146 PARTICIPANTS CONTRIBUTING $473,000 TO FIVE LOCAL CHARITIES: SECOND HARVEST SILICON VALLEY, HOUSING TRUST SILICON VALLEY, THE HEALTH TRUST, HEALTHIER KIDS FOUNDATION, AND SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK SANTA CRUZ.
BUILDING COMMUNITY: SILICON VALLEY: SANTA RUNIN THE TENTH YEAR OF THIS RACE, THE SANTA RUN SILICON VALLEY WAS FORCED TO PIVOT TO A VIRTUAL FORMAT DUE TO THE ONGOING GLOBAL PANDEMIC. THE RACE ATTRACTED 1,067 PARTICIPANTS BUT DUE TO THE LACK OF SPONSORSHIP INCURRED A FINANCIAL LOSS. THE RACE STILL WAS ABLE TO MAKE A SMALL CONTRIBUTION TO CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK AND DOWNTOWN ICE. WITH THE PLAN FOR A RETURN TO IN-PERSON IN 2022 WE HOPE TO SECURE ENOUGH SPONSORS TO MAKE THE EVENT ONCE AGAIN PROFITABLE.
BUILDING COMMUNITY: HEART & SOLES THE FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED THE HEART & SOLES RUN IN THE SPRING OF 2014 TO HELP RAISE MONEY TO SUPPORT YOUTH HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE REGION. IN 2021 THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC PREVENTED AN IN-PERSON EVENT FROM TAKING PLACE. WE WERE ABLE TO PIVOT TO A VIRTUAL FORMAT AND STILL DELIVER A VIRTUAL RUN FOR 753 PARTICIPANTS AND DONATE $23,068 TO OUR BENEFITING ORGANIZATIONS BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF SILICON VALLEY, SILICON VALLEY YMCA, SCCOE, AND BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY.
HIRE LEARNING PROGRAM (FORMERLY COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO CAREER INITIATIVE)OUR HIRE LEARNING PROGRAM RESTRUCTURED THE BAY AREA-SACRAMENTO REGION'S CALIFORNIA STEWARDSHIP NETWORK EFFORTS TO FOCUS ON STUDENTS OF COLOR INITIATING AND THEN CO-DESIGNING THE "UMOJA AND PUENTE CAREER HORIZONS" PROGRAM, ENGAGING EMPLOYEES FROM 20 COMPANIES TO MEET 1:1 WITH 108 BIPOC STUDENTS FOR CAREER MENTORSHIP IN PILOT. WE ALSO FACILITATED 1:1 EMPLOYER-COLLEGE/NONPROFIT MEETINGS WITH OVER 25 COMPANIES TO SECURE 67 INTERNSHIPS, 15 APPRENTICESHIPS, AND INDUSTRY CAREER TALKS FOR HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS. FINALLY, WE HELD A SERIES OF HEALTHCARE & ICT ADVISORY DISCUSSIONS BRINGING TOGETHER EMPLOYERS AND COMMUNITY COLLEGES CO-LOCATED IN THE BAY AREA AND SACRAMENTO. THE GOAL: TO INFORM COLLEGE PROGRAMS AND INITIATE NEW PARTNERSHIPS THAT CLOSE HEALTHCARE AND ICT SKILLS GAPS ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.
