THE MISSION OF EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY SERVICES IS TO PROVIDE CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE K-12TH EDUCATION PROGRAMS THAT KEEP OUR YOUTH SAFE AND HELP THEM SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND LIFE.

Part 3 - Line 4a

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS- AFTERSCHOOL AND SUMMER: CULTURALLY COMPETENT, AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS DESIGNED FOR ELEMENTARY (K-4) AND MIDDLE SCHOOL (5-8) AND HIGH SCHOOL (9-12) SCHOLARS. THE EACS MODEL ENCOURAGES ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-IMAGE, LEADERSHIP AND COLLEGE/CAREER EXPLORATION. THESE PROGRAMS SERVED 200 YOUTH DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. THE HORN SUMMER DAY CAMP SERVED 150 YOUTH BETWEEN EACS' TWO CAMPUSES.


OTHER PROGRAMS: PARENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES


PRENATAL PROGRAM: EACS IS PIONEERING ITS INNOVATIVE SHEEKO SHEEKO, HOME VISITING PROGRAM (2019). SHEEKO SHEEKO WORKS TO INCREASE PARENT-CHILD COGNITIVE INTERACTIONS THROUGH THE SOMALI ART OF STORY-TELLING. SHEEKO SHEEKO HOME VISITING PROGRAM HOPES TO CREATE AN IN-HOME CULTURE WHERE READING AND INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY IS FOSTERED.


MENTORSHIP AND PARENT LEADERSHIP: STRONG GIRLS, POWERFUL LEADERS IS A STRATEGIC COMPONENT OF EACS' YOUTH MENTORSHIP AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMING. IT EMERGED FROM THE REAL NEEDS OF GIRLS THEMSELVES. CONSEQUENTLY, IT IS FOR GIRLS, BY GIRLS AND WOMEN MENTORS. GIRLS WILL MEET MONTHLY WITH MENTORS FOR DISCUSSION GROUPS, ONE-ON-ONE MENTORSHIP AND GROUP LEARNING. EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY SERVICES' PLTI EXISTS TO CIVICALLY ACTIVATE EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITIES TO HARNESS THEIR COLLECTIVE CULTURAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL POWER TO AFFECT AN EQUITY AND JUSTICE AGENDA.
