OUR MISSION IS TO SURROUND STUDENTS WITH A COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT, EMPOWERING THEM TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND ACHIEVE IN LIFE. THE CIS NATIONAL MODEL WE USE TO PROVIDE THESE SERVICES, PLACES A COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS SITE COORDINATOR IN A SCHOOL TO ASSESS NEEDS, MADE A PLAN, AND COORDINATE INTENSIVE INTERVENTIONS FOR THE KIDS MOST AT RISK FOR DROPPING OUT, ALONG WITH SERVICES GEARED TO THE ENTIRE SCHOOL. THE SITE COORDINATOR WORKS WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY SERVICE PARTNERS SUCH AS SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, BUSINESSES, HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND VOLUNTEERS TO CONNECT STUDENTS WITH NEEDED RESOURCES.

SCHOOL-BASED SITE COORDINATORS EMPOWER STUDENTS TO STAY IN SCHOOL THROUGH INDIVIDUALIZED ACCESS TO NEEDED RESOURCES, AND ONGOING ENCOURAGEMENT AND GUIDANCE TO BUILD CONFIDENCE TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL AND ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS. COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF TACOMA PROVIDES STUDENTS AT EACH SCHOOL SITE WITH 3 TIERS OF SUPPORT. THE LEVEL OF SERVICES PROVIDED TO STUDENTS IS BASED ON THE EARLY WARNING INDICATORS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS. WE PROVIDED SUPPORT TO OVER 150 STUDENTS DURING THE 2021-2022 ACADEMIC YEAR. DESPITE THE CHALLENGES STUDENTS CONTINUE TO FACE WITH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND OTHER LIFE CIRCUMSTANCES, 95% WERE PROMOTED TO THE NEXT GRADE, 93% IMPROVED THEIR ATTENDANCE, 96% IMPROVED THEIR COURSEWORK, AND 100% MET THEIR BEHAVIOR GOALS AND IMPROVED THEIR SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING BY THE END OF THE 2022 SCHOOL YEAR.


READY SET READ TACOMA! PROGRAM IS AN EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP PREPARE CHILDREN FOR KINDERGARTEN IN TACOMA PUBLIC SCHOOLS.


DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC, WE PROVIDED EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES BY PROVIDING THEM ACCESS TO FOOD AND TECHNOLOGY. WHILE TECHNOLOGY NEEDS ARE DIMINISHING, THE NEEDS FOR FOOD, CLOTHING AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES STILL EXSIST. THIS PROGRAM HELPS TO PROVIDE THESE MUCH-NEEDED SUPPORTS IN THE COMMUNITY.
