WITH THE SUPPORT OF APPROXIMATELY 48 VOLUNTEERS SERVING IN VARIOUS CAPACITIES,SKAGIT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THEIR 38TH AND 39TH HOME(S) WITH OUR NEWEST HOMEBUYERS BUILT ALMOST ENTIRELY BY THE HOMEBUYERS AND VOLUNTEER LABOR. THROUGH THIS PROCESS, TRAINING AND MENTORING IS PROVIDED FOR THE HOUSEHOLDS AND OTHERS IN SKAGIT COUNTY RANGING FROM FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT TO HOME MAINTENANCE/REPAIR, ETC. THE GOAL IS TO HAVE THE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES ACHIEVE LONG-TERM SUCCESS IN THEIR HOMEOWNERSHIP AND PROVIDE PERMANENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR THE FAMILIES.
WITH THE SUPPORT OF APPROXIMATELY 52 VOLUNTEERS SERVING IN VARIOUS CAPACITIES, SKAGIT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OPERATES A USED BUILDING MATERIAL STORE. THE STORE HAS PROVIDED A RESOURCE FOR BUILDERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO DONATE AND PURCHASED USABLE MATERIALS.THE STORE RAISES FUNDS TO HELP SUSTAIN OUR PROGRAMS AS WELL AS PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS. WE PARTNER WITH AGENCIES AND INDIVIDUALS IN AND AROUND SKAGIT COUNTY TO PROVIDE WORK TRAINING TO UNDERSERVED INDIVIDUALS; PROVIDING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR JOB TRAINING, EVALUATION AND VALUABLE EMPLOYABLE SKILL SETS. THE JOB TRAINING/EVALUATIONS ALLOW INDIVIDUALS TO GAIN EXPERIENCE IN A RETAIL & WAREHOUSE ENVIRONMENT, WITH THE EXPECTATION OF LEVERAGING THIS EXPERIENCE INTO FUTURE EMPLOYMENT. WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR PAID STAFF THROUGH INDIVIDUALS FROM THESE PROGRAMS.
