THE PUYALLUP VALLEY ST FRANCIS HOUSE EASES THE HARDSHIPS OF LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS IN EAST PIERCE COUNTY BY PROVIDING CLOTHING, FOOD AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE. TO THIS END, IT OPERATES A CLOTHING BANK AND AN EVENING MEAL PROGRAM.

CLOTHING BANK: IN 2021, OUR CLOTHING BANK HOSTED 7,202 VISITS AND REGISTERED 399 NEW CLIENTS DURING THE YEAR. DURING THESE VISITS, 126,805 ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS WERE DISTRIBUTED AS WELL AS 59,381 FOOD ITEMS. INCLUDED IN THESE NUMBERS, THE CLOTHING BANK SERVED 1,437 HOMELESS CLIENTS WHO VISITED 2,959 TIMES AND RECEIVED 29,485 ITEMS. 198 NEW HOMELESS CLIENTS WERE REGISTERED FOR ST. FRANCIS HOUSE PROGRAMS IN 2021. THE CLOTHING BANK VOLUNTEERS COMPRISED OF 70 INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS THAT DONATED 3,175 HOURS; 2 COMMUNITY GROUPS OF 15 THAT DONATED 150 HOURS, 2 CORPORATE GROUPS THAT DONATED 108 HOURS. THE CLOTHING BANK WAREHOUSE HAD 2 INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS THAT DONATED 879 HOURS. THE CLOTHING BANK HOSTED 27 SCHOOL COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS FOR A TOTAL OF 540 HOURS DONATED AND 13 VOLUNTEERS FROM COURT ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS THAT DONATED 182 HOURS.
EVENING MEAL PROGRAM: THE EVENING MEAL PROGRAM SERVED 1,515 INDIVIDUAL MEALS DURING THE YEAR AND SERVED 220 MEALS TO AREA FARM WORKERS. THE EVENING MEAL PROGRAM IS VOLUNTEER-BASED AND HAD A TOTAL OF 330 HOURS DONATED BY 12 TEAMS OF 5 THAT BROUGHT AND SERVED MEALS AS WELL AS 8 OTHER VOLUNTEERS THAT REGULARLY SUPPORT THE PROGRAM. AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, MANY HOMELESS CLIENTS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE WERE RELOCATED TO OTHER AREA SHELTERS, DECREASING THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS SERVED BY THE PROGRAM. SUBSEQUENT TO THE SALE OF THE PROPERTY THAT HOUSED THE MEAL PROGRAM, ST. FRANCIS HOUSE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED THE PROGRAM UNTIL SUCH TIME AS A SUITABLE SPACE CAN BE IDENTIFIED AND SECURED TO SERVE THE HOMELESS AND VULNERABLE HOT MEALS IN THE PUYALLUP VALLEY.
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE: THE PUYALLUP VALLEY ST. FRANCIS HOUSE PROVIDES EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN EAST PIERCE COUNTY AND ADMINISTERS THE HOMELESS PREVENTION FUND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF PUYALLUP. FROM THE ST. FRANCIS HOUSE FUND, 111 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED 47,256 IN ASSISTANCE THAT WENT DIRECTLY TO PAY FOR RENT, UTILITIES, BUS TICKETS, VEHICLE GAS, PROPANE, LAUNDRY, AND OTHER NEEDS. RENTAL ASSISTANCE, UTILITY ASSISTANCE AND BUS TICKETS ARE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE VENDOR. THROUGH COOPERATION WITH LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS, THE GAS AND PROPANE FUNDS ARE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH A VOUCHER SYSTEM. THE PROGRAM IS ADMINISTERED BY A PART-TIME STAFF MEMBER.
THE NOOK: THE NOOK IS THE ORGANIZATION'S CHARITY BOUTIQUE WHICH SELLS DONATED HIGH- END GARMENTS AND HOUSEWARES. PROCEEDS SUPPORT THE CLOTHING BANK. THE NOOK IS STAFFED BY A TEAM OF 34 VOLUNTEERS THAT DONATED A COMBINED 2,450 HOURS IN 2021. ALL OTHERS: THE ST. FRANCIS HOUSE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF IS SUPPORTED BY 7 VOLUNTEERS THAT DONATED A COMBINED 727 HOURS.
