PERINATAL SUPPORT WASHINGTON (PS-WA) IS A STATEWIDE NON-PROFIT COMMITTED TO SHINING A LIGHT ON PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH TO SUPPORT ALL FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES.

DURING THE PANDEMIC, PARENTS ARE 3 TO 4 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH COMPLICATIONS. OUR WARM LINE CALLS INCREASED BY 135%; WE DOUBLED OUR VOLUNTEER SIZE AND INCREASED TRAINING TO RESPOND TO THE INCREASE AND CALLS SEVERITY, WITH MORE PARENTS EXPERIENCING SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, RELATIONSHIP CONFLICT, AND INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE. OUR NEW CLINICAL TRAINING AND THERAPY PROGRAM, WHICH TRAINS AND EMPLOYS INTERNS AND ASSOCIATE LEVEL THERAPISTS, GRADUATED ITS FIRST COHORT. THE PROGRAM WAS FOUNDED TO MEET A HUGE GAP IN CARE - BOTH IN PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH EXPERTISE AND IN ACCESS. IN 2021 WE SERVED 140 CLIENTS, MORE THAN 40% OF WHICH WERE MEDICAID OR UNINSURED CLIENTS WHO TEND TO HAVE DIFFICULTY ACCESSING PROVIDERS. OUR NEW PARENT EDUCATION AND RESILIENCE PROGRAM (PERC) TRAINED 112 PROFESSIONALS AND SERVED 50 PARENTS, WITH CULTURALLY-MATCHED CARE FOR BLACK/AFRICAN AMERICAN, LATINX AND INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES IN KING COUNTY.
