Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
BFHS ADVOCATES FOR THE HUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS THROUGH ADOPTION COUNSELING, EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH, AND COMMUNITY SERVICES. WHETHER IT BE THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF ADOPTIONS IN LOCAL MEDIA, SPECIAL ADOPTION EVENTS, OR SPAY AND NEUTER EDUCATION, WE PROMOTE EXCEPTIONAL PET OWNERSHIP AND WORK TIRELESSLY TO PLACE OUR ANIMALS INTO LOVING, FOREVER HOMES. EACH ANIMAL THAT IS ADOPTED FROM OUR FACILITY IS SPAYED OR NEUTERED AND VACCINATED PRIOR TO GOING TO THEIR FOREVER HOME, FOR NO ADDITIONAL FEE.
ANIMAL CONTROL AUTHORITY CONTRACT:HEALTHIER ANIMAL POPULATIONDECREASED ANIMAL ILLNESS FROM NEAR 100% TO LESS THAN 10%. AREAS OF THE SHELTER ARE NOW DESIGNATED FOR THOSE ANIMALS SUFFERING FROM DISEASES AND WHETHER OR NOT PPE/QUARANTINE IS NECESSARY. TRAINED MEDICAL STAFF IS ONSITE TO OBSERVE AND TREAT ALL ANIMALS, WHILE VETERINARIAN CONSULTANTS ARE ALSO UTILIZED. COMMUNITY WATER BUCKETS ARE NO LONGER UTILIZED AND STRINGENT CLEANING PROCESSES HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND ARE NOW EXPECTED TO BE UTILIZED BY ALL STAFF. ANIMALS ADOPTED TO THE COMMUNITY FOR A FEE WITHOUT BEING SPAYED/NEUTERED BY THE PREVIOUS LEADERSHIP WERE ALTERED BY BFHS FOR NO CHARGE TO THE COMMUNITY MEMBER, CONTRIBUTING TO A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY POPULATION. IMPROVED CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCEFROM THE MOMENT CUSTOMERS ENTER THE SHELTER, THEY ARE GREETED BY OUR ADOPTION SPECIALISTS. WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON BOTH EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAVE CARRIED THIS PRACTICE TO TCAS DESPITE THE CHALLENGES. ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS ARE ACTIVELY WORKING TO EDUCATE FIRST AND ENFORCE SECOND, REBUILDING TRUST AND RESPECT WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. CLEANER SHELTERAS NOTED BY COUNCILMAN MILNE AND NUMEROUS MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, THE SHELTER HAS BEEN CLEANED AND ORGANIZED. AREAS ARE DEFINED FOR USE INCLUDING THE COMMUNITY FOOD BANK, SHELTER FOOD, FERAL ROOM, SICK/QUARANTINE AREAS, CAT ROOM, DOG RUNS, INTAKE, ASO OFFICE, ETC. RECORDS AND PROCESS ORGANIZATIONWE CONTINUE TO CLEAN UP PAST RECORDS AND HAVE CARRIED OVER MANY OF OUR PROCESSES FROM OUR KENNEWICK LOCATION TO ENSURE ACCURATE AND EFFICIENT RECORD-KEEPING. THIS COVERS A WIDE ARRAY OF PROCESSES FROM INTAKE TO MEDICAL TO FINANCIAL TO ADOPTION. WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF SWITCHING ANIMAL TRACKING SOFTWARE TO FURTHER IMPROVE THE RECORDS SYSTEM AND HAVE SOPS IN PLACE. VOLUNTEER TRAINING AND FOSTER COORDINATION WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED THE BFHS VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM TO IMPROVE SAFETY AND REDUCE LIABILITY FOR BOTH BFHS AND THE ACA. THIS PROGRAM WILL BE DISCUSSED LATER IN THIS DOCUMENT. IN ADDITION, WE HAVE WORKED DILIGENTLY TO TRACK THOSE ANIMALS IN FOSTER, GETTING THEM SPAYED/NEUTERED AND, HOPEFULLY, PLACED WITH THEIR ADOPTERS. OUR FOSTER COORDINATOR, NATALIE, CONTINUES TO IMPROVE THIS PROGRAM TO ENSURE ANIMALS THAT LEAVE THE SHELTER ARE COORDINATED THROUGH HER.
