PARTNERED WITH THE THIERER FAMILY FOUNDATION, WHO DEVELOPED VIVERY, AND THE GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY FOOD BANK TO PILOT VIVERY TECHNOLOGY IN CHICAGOS AUSTIN COMMUNITY . . . 23 FOOD PANTRIES PARTICIPATED IN TESTING THE TECHNOLOGY OFFERING 38 FOOD AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS . . . THE PILOT WEBSITE (OPENSHELFNOW.ORG) AND FIND FOOD MAP SUPPORTED OVER 60,000 NEIGHBORS . . . AFTER A SUCCESSFUL PILOT, THE FOOD BANK USED VIVERY TECHNOLOGY TO CONNECT ITS 700 FOOD PANTRIES, SHELTERS, AND PROGRAMS TO THE COMMUNITIES THEY SERVE, PROVIDING DIGITAL ACCESS TO FOOD FOR NEIGHBORS IN THE GREATER CHICAGO AREA WITH AN ESTIMATED POPULATION OF 800,000.
PARTNERED WITH TWO FOOD PANTRIES TO EXPAND THEIR WEEKDAY IN-HOME DELIVERY PROGRAMS OF NUTRITIOUS PANTRY GROCERIES AND PRODUCE TO SENIORS AND HOMEBOUND INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUSTIN COMMUNITY OF CHICAGO. THE PROGRAM WORKED WITH A LOCAL DELIVERY SERVICE RATHER THAN RELYING ON CURRENT VOLUNTEERS. DECEMBER RESULTS FOR THE 10-MONTH DELIVERY PILOT WERE . . . AN ADDITIONAL 33,075 MEALS DELIVERED TO 485 HOMES . . . 67 HOUSEHOLDS THAT DID NOT HAVE A RELIABLE WAY TO ACCESS FOOD WERE ADDED TO OUR PARTNERS EXISTING PROGRAMS. COMMUNITY BENEFITS THAT WERE NOT ANTICIPATED INCLUDE 10 NEW DELIVERY DRIVERS HIRED; 2 PANTRY STAFF HIRED, AND 160+ VOLUNTEER HOURS REALLOCATED TO OTHER PROGRAMS. THE PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE THROUGH 2023 AT WHICH TIME THE TWO PANTRIES WILL ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
PILOTING AN IN-HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CHICAGO MAYORS OFFICE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THE COMMUNITY SAFETY COORDINATION CENTER BEGAN IN FEBRUARY 2023. EXPENSES WERE USED TO CREATE A DATABASE TO MANAGE THE PROGRAM OF 100 NEIGHBORS IN THE AUSTIN COMMUNITY RECEIVING PANTRY GROCERIES AND FRESH PRODUCE FOR 6 MONTHS. OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS INCLUDE 4 LOCAL PANTRIES, 2 PRODUCE PROVIDERS, 1 DELIVERY SERVICE AND 8 SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES.
