Part 3 - Line 4a

THE DREAM CENTER DALLAS PROPERTY WAS ACQUIRED IN JANUARY 2020. WITH THE STRUCTURAL BUILDINGS IN COMPLETE DISREPAIR, DCD LAUNCHED ITS FIRST PROGRAM CALLED 'ADOPTABLOCK' IN MARCH OF 2020 AMIDST THE ADVERSITY OF THE COVID19 PANDEMIC. ADOPTABLOCK IS A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FRESH PRODUCE, HOUSEHOLD GOODS, AND HOME SERVICES TO THE LOCAL 75216 COMMUNITY THROUGH A DRIVETHRU EXPERIENCE. IN 2020, DCD DISTRIBUTED 42,150 MEALS THROUGH ADOPTABLOCKS IN RESPONSE TO COVID19.IN 2021 DCD BEGAN ASSESSING NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY BY GOING DOOR TO DOOR TO ASK HOW WE CAN ASSIST INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES. THROUGH THIS PROJECT, DCD DELIVERED BEDS, APPLIANCES, PROVIDED LAWN CARE, AND DELIVERED GROCERIES AND HOT MEALS TO INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES IN THE AREA, AS WELL AS SENIOR CITIZENS WHO ARE UNABLE TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES.THROUGH THE NEED ASSESSMENT PROJECT AND A PARTNERSHIP WITH COUNCILWOMAN ARNOLD, WE FOUND THAT A MAJOR AREA OF NEED IN THE COMMUNITY WAS HOME REPAIRS. IN OCTOBER OF 2021, WE LAUNCHED A HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECT THAT PARTNERS VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCED IN CONSTRUCTION, PLUMBING, LAWN CARE, AND MORE TO INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY WHO REQUIRE HOME REPAIRS. THROUGH THIS PROJECT, DCD LEARNED THAT A WHEELCHAIRBOUND 92YEAROLD WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN LIVING IN HER HOME SINCE 1960 WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO NAVIGATE HER OWN HOME DUE TO AN UNEVEN FOUNDATION. WE WERE ABLE TO REPAIR HER FOUNDATION, BUILD AN ADA RAMP, EXTEND THE FRONT PORCH AND IMPROVE THE INSIDE OF THE HOME FOR HER TO LIVE COMFORTABLY.DCD CURRENTLY OPERATES A MOBILE PREGNANCY UNIT EVERY WEEK IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE DREAM CENTER. THIS UNIT OFFERS FREE PREGNANCY TESTS, STD SCREENING, SONOGRAMS, AND OPTIONS COUNSELING CONDUCTED BY A REGISTERED NURSE AND OBGYN MEDICAL DIRECTOR.AS THE BUILDING PROJECTS HAVE TAKEN TIME, PROGRAMS AND SERVICES HAVE FOCUSED ON AREAS THAT DON'T REQUIRE PHYSICAL BUILDINGS. CURRENT STRUCTURAL RENOVATION INVOLVES ALL THREE STRUCTURES ON THE 2.4 ACRES. BUILDINGS WILL SERVE AS HOUSING FOR PROGRAMS TO INCLUDE COMMUNITY MEETING ROOMS, OFFICE SPACE, A DROPIN CENTER FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS, A FULLY FUNCTIONAL SERVING KITCHEN FOR PROVIDING HOT MEALS, DRY STORAGE, REFRIGERATION, AND OTHER NECESSARY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SUPPORTING AND INCREASING COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.OUR METRICS OF SUCCESS ARE TIED TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE REACHED BY EXISTING PROGRAMS. IN 2021, DCD DISTRIBUTED 17,600 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE, 3,660 HOT MEALS, AND 2,528 HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. AT OUR ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT, DCD DISTRIBUTED 300 BACKPACKS FILLED WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND 100 PAIRS OF NEW SHOES TO CHILDREN IN THE AREA. DURING THE HOLIDAYS, DCD DISTRIBUTED 450 THANKSGIVING BASKETS, FEEDING 1,800 PEOPLE, AND 1,000 TOYS AT OUR CHRISTMAS EVENT TO PROVIDE CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR FAMILIES STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET. IN 2022 WE LOOK TO DOUBLE OUR IMPACT, WITH THE PROPER FUNDING AND EXPANSION OF CURRENT AND NEW PROGRAMS.
